By the way, make sure they are the commercial grade asphalt tiles, NOT linoleum self stick crapppy thingies. |

Use the Armstrong asphalt tiles they sell at Home Depot. They come in almost every color imaginable, are easy to put down, the color goes all the way through (so they wont wear out), they wont break and are easy to maintain. They can also be cut so you can make designs etc... They come in 12"x12" squares. This is what they use in grocery stores, wal-marts, department stores, etc... You only need to have them polished periodically and they look great! my 2 cents. |

Martin, My first choice at this time is the 18x18 ceramic tiles.. I found some great textured tile w/a glossy coating (easy to clean) at 69 cents and I felt if it is sitting on top of a solid cement floor why should it crack.. Small air pockets wont make it crack, but larger ones will... I was watching "Extreme Garages" on HGTV and the first guy had it all in tiles and he said it was the best investment he's done.. I still will do all my auto mechanics like jacking the car and having it up on jack stands and I wanted to know how that will affect the tiles.. |

Ron, I had my garage tiles and it was great. I did not use a white tile since you will be cleaning the damn floor more often, than you want. I used a light beige tile 18x18. You can find them in outlet stores for $1.00 sq ft or even less. On the front to the garage I put a checkered flag with 10x10 black and white tiles. I personally did the Scuderia Shield in the middle of the tiles as a mosaique. Tile can only break if there is air under the tile, meaning not enough cement was used. Those will break either way even if you walk on them. There is also special floor paint. You should have no problem. I fid that this indeed is not as good as tiling the floor.

Hey Des, I saw some at Home Depot and that was my first choice. I was then told that it will wear in time.. The guy who told me that has his garage done in vinyl green and white checker tiles.. The idea looked right but his white tiles turned yellowish.. I have alot of ideas for my garage and I plan to start with the floors.. |

Ron... i don't have a garage, but isn't there some type of paint specifically made to put on garage floors so the heat of the tires won't peal it...? Just wondering... Maybe someone else knows...? Good luck on what you choose to do and let us know how it turns out... |

This summer I am thinking about making my garage floors beautiful. I had some ideas and it seems that everyone I've spoken with states that may not work and their idea was better. I was going to go with the floor paint and was told that the heat of the tires would peel off the paint after long drives.. I was then going to go with some 18' ceramic tiles and was told they would crack under the weight of the car..I would need thicker ($$$$) tiles to support the vehicle. Finally a woman at Home depot flooring advised me to stain the floor in the stlye that I want and that should be great.. (marble, tile or even a brick style would be cool..) I just don't know what to do and I need your HELP. What have you or your friends done with your floors?
