I wish more politicians spoke, and acted, like Mr. Rumsfeld. He is right: that is EXACTLY what democracy is all about!

dave as usual, i agree.
did you catch rumsfelds news conference yesterday? a reporter asked him what the usa was going to do about those groups that boycotted the 'big tent' meeting and then protested outside. his answer: nothing. thats the way democracy works, people choose what they want to participate in and what they don't; what they want to go out and protest against etc. pretty soon they will discover that they have a much better chance of affecting the system and the outcome, from inside the tent, rather than protesting outside.
the reporter did not have a follow-up and sat back down in silence.

CNN Headline:

Senior U.S. military officials have admitted Iraqi museums were plundered during a "void in security" and that they failed to anticipate Iraq's cultural riches would be looted by its own people.

Translation:

We at CNN are really peeved that this war has gone so well. We hate Bush and wanted to see this war be a disaster so we can get a democrat back in office. Despite the brilliant victory won the United States military, we will still do our best to take pot shots at them when the situation arises or can easily be fabricated. Thus, we develop the most negative headlines we think we can get away with running. We have found that using phrases like admitting to failure work especially well in painting the U.S. military in the most negative fashion possible.
