If you support that sort of slaughter, I hope you have no complaints about slaughtering dogs and cats. Or better yet the beating to death of dogs as done in China and Korea, since that goes back a ways also.

We eat Kosher meat in our family. That is not
going to happen. I have not heard of too many
liberals looking at that. I suppose one day
they might ban everything but grass and bring us back to the days of nice good clean berry eating cave men.

I am not going to go back and forth on this one. It is pointless. But that is a religious ritual that goes way back.

Wow, this got me reading up on animal cruelty and food. What about kosher beef? I think that should be shut down long before the concern over dog and cat trading. In case you don't know what kosher beef is, here's a brief definition:

"Most food animals are killed by the process of Kosher slaughter. Kosher slaughter involves hanging an animal particullarly a cow or pig by its hooves. The animal's neck is cut without any kind of anethesia. The animal hangs and bleeds to death."

LOL, des!

Randall, I believe that park ranger who dragged the alligator in Houston may face criminal (animal cruelty) charges for that outrageous behavior...

I've heard of several cases where snake owners get animals from the humane society to feed to their snake, just to end up with animal cruelty charges on them. I think that's a little unjust, the snake has to eat something.

u.s. based cosmetic companies still conduct and carryout animal testing; draze eye test, ld 50, etc. irrespective of the fact that, currently, no u.s. law mandates such practices. the majority of these tests are carried out on: rabbits, cats, dogs and mice. it has always been my opinion, as a scientist and pharmacologist, that the use of animal models in drug/chemical testing should be used only in the latest possible stages of research, and only for products administered to humans where no previous pharmacological data exists regarding specific compositions, molecules, and chemicals. any abuse of animals should not be condoned.

Right, but in certain countries, owning two goats is also considered bigamy.

They've been considered food in some countries for a long time. And cows have been sacred for a long time in some cultures. It's all about tolerance.

It's disgusting. The difference between these animials is that they've been considered pets, family members since we've been civilized, or since some of us has been civilized.

When I was in college in Abilene, Texas a Mexican food restaurant was investigated because neighbors were saying that there were a lot of dog skeletons in the dumpsters behind the restauarant. Yeppers, got closed down by the health dept. I bet their profit margin was really high with the non-existant cost of that meat. They were doing a community service also, by ridding the surronding neighborhood of strays.

Never ate there, so I cannot say how it tasted but I would not do it anyway if I knew.

Jere, will you take a check...? :-)

i don't want to put it down, especially since i haven't tried it, but i can't say i feel really interested in eating cat meat (just cat sup - get it? catsup? LMAO...!)

When i was a kid, the family went to Canada for the day; we went to a restaurant and all ordered cheese burgers (is "cheese burgers" one word or two?) and when they came and we started eating, we were all confused- "why does this taste so bad...?"
Horse meat.

Blech.

The only thing I saw wrong was that the guy said he saw a video of animals being skinned alive, but I think that's still done with minks and mongoose.

I don't understand what the difference is between using dogs and cats as resources vs. using cows/chickens/sheep/ostrich/buffalo/rabbit/etc.

I saw a video of park control in Texas (I believe) dragging a gator behind a truck and the later shooting it. If it would have been a dog or cat people would have freaked. If a person sees a snake in their yard a stomps on it, no better gets up in arms. But if it's a cat, and they stomp on it; they'll go to jail if caught.

A relating story. There was an editorial in a local paper out here where someone wrote about how they trap feral cats, and if there is no marking to show that it's a pet, they killed them and ate them. They gave two ways to prepare them and also recommended that we use all the strays and feral to feed the homeless.
Needless to say that after it was published it upset quite a few people.

"There's a cat in the kettle at The Silver Spoon...
The place that i eat, everyday, at noon...
They say that it's chicken or beef or pork,
but Garfield's on my fork... Yeah, he's purrin', here, on my fork..."
