the cheapest way is to use somebody's office phone.....but in the absence of that, then the best is to buy a phone card locally that you can use in the phone booths at post offices etc. - don't use hotel phones - don't use your mci card ($/min) - if you have a gsm phone it will work everywhere (as long as you tell thm you will be going to europe), but the roaming and time charges from usa carriers are ridiculously high, even when you receive calls, so i wouldn't use that either if you're trying to be cost conscious. - if you are going to be away for an extended time period, and you have a gsm phone, you might consider buying a local sim card with a prepaid amount of calls, and use that. obviously your number will be different but it should be quite a bit cheaper. |

I will be leaving for Germany/Italy a week from Saturday and was wondering what is the cheapest way to call home? I have 2 little girls so will be calling often. How about that 10-10-987 thing, or should I get special service on my cell phone (if that's possible)? I was in Europe before, but had no kids at the time and my wife was with me, so I never called home (sorry Mom!). Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
