This was not a school-sponsored event, which has brought into question the school's role in disciplining these kids. You should see the articles in the newspapers...Anyway Randall, it is unfortunate that our culture has turned into one of self-promoting vidiots, but that doesn't mean we can blame these sources for actions. 1. Reality shows are only a bad influence if we allow them to be shown inside our homes. I'm not naive enough to think we can shelter kids from all bad influences, but we should be able to control what's shown inside our homes. 2. Alcohol. It's only a problem when consumed to excess. What the real issue here is, who purchased the alcohol for these teenagers? There is a lot of speculation and finger-pointing going on regarding that. 3. This is not a school-sponsored event. Rather, it a traditional event carried out by many schools. The only difference is that, normally, it actually is for a football game between juniors and seniors. Apparently this generation thought it necessary to take it to a ridiculous level. We did this at my school 20 years ago. Sure, some kids had been drinking, but the only injuries were from legitimate on-field activities. |

There were some broken bones in this. A little jail, a little compensation for the injuried, and if this was a quasi school function, i.e., one known about by the school, sponsored by the school, then those in charge of the school need a little re-education. Art |

I think they should definately be suspended....although it wasn't on school property, it was the SENIOR class inflicting injury on the JUNIOR CLASS.....the suspensions are hardly enough punishment.....I hope criminal charges will be filed.....Some of those seniors should be made to pay for what they did.....utterly disgusting behavior.....The odacity of some parents actually fighting to stop the suspensions...ridiculous...I can't fathom watching my daughter beat the out of someone, forcing them to eat mud, throwing FECES at them, then saying....hmmmmmmm.....maybe suspension is a little much, lets file a lawsuit AGAINST THE SCHOOL!!!! I don't like where this country is heading. |

I think the blame goes on the individuals. I don't even know why some were suspended. Not a school function and off school property. These people should be delt with in a court of law. |

I'm sure everyone has seen those highschool seniors hazing video by now. I've been watching to see when the lawsuits would pop up and the blame would be shifted from the girls to something else. So far I've heard of the blame going to: 1. Reality TV shows like Fear Factor. It encourages women to take more agressive roles. 2. Alcohol. Because when you drink the alcohol controls your body. 3. The school, for not preventing this. But I haven't heard anyone mention the movie Dazed and Confused. It portrays the hazing, except without the extreme violence. It also portrays the drinking. |
