My brand spanking new Porsche is in the shop because of fuel injector problems. Any other owners out there have this issue? Talk about lame. The reason I bought the Porsche is because I wanted a daily driver. If these sort of problems persist I'm jumping the fence and getting a Ferrari dammit.

Taek, sorry to hear about that. Especially frustrating since the other guy sounds like a cocky brat. I'm sure a firm grip around his throat would have squeezed out an apology. I don't know how you refrained from grabbing his phone and ashpalt-testing it!

Wife asked me today where the Porsche is...

It's in the shop, I said. The moment of truth draws nigh.

JR, I've put about 250 miles in the last couple of days. I want to hit 1000 miles before WOT. Then 1500 miles before redlining. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll be whipping it along.

"I was once told never, ever, to admit to any type of guilt in an incident such as this"

Adam,

You were told wrong. I understand that an apology is an admission of guilt, and that is something best reserved for other times if it isn't clear whose fault it was. The guy hit a parked car while going way over the 25 mph speed limit. It is obviously his fault. An apology is the very least he can do.

By the way, talked to the police yesterday. The guy was stoned and had a few beers. I must admit he didn't look drunk or anything but breathalizers don't lie. Great, what an idiot.

Sorry to hear about this Taek.

Regarding the lack of an apology, I was once told never, ever, to admit to any type of guilt in an incident such as this. On the other hand, maybe it was the guy's emotions getting in the way, or maybe, heck, he's just an idiot:-)

Yeah, I've seen Civic CRXs do 9sec quarter miles. Kind of crazy what they can do with these cars! I almost got burned by a twin turbo Jetta VR6 when I was in my Vette the other day. The car is my ex-roommate's. Sucker's fast.

I heard and saw a turbo integra last night spool up the turbos and chirp the tires in gears 1-3.

I'll be taking photos of ricers who want to take on the Turbo too. You never know, there are some sleepers out there. Nitrous brought the horsepower game to the masses.

I swear this car called my name when I walked into the showroom. It's not the X50. It's tough to find those. It's a bit overkill too. I just want a solid daily driver out of this car.

I have some money allotted for the more heart tugging exotica out there. Just waiting for the right car and the right time. Problem is...the list gets longer and longer.

Now I gotta figure out what to do with the C4. I'll probably sell it to my brother for cheap after I fix it up. Good time to do mods on the car. Maybe a Turbo package? Then it'll be like a Turbo Cabrio! Well, we'll leave that up to him.

Sorry to hear about the C4 Taek,

Glad that you were not hurt.

Did you purchase a X50 TT? Look forward to seeing it out at future drives. That makes 3 996TT's in our local owners group; Mark, ACW, and Taek.

See you and the C5 this weekend.

Taek and Ross,

Wow - now that is equanimity. Geez, just the other night I got ticked off at a girl who pulled out in front of me without looking (on a cell phone) while traffic was moving about 40 mph.

Glad you're ok, and glad you were able to turn it into something even better! Still, most aren't that fortunate. I've been hit & run while parked in LA 3 times over the years. The cars are never the same (like Ross' - can you imagine an insurance company not writing that off??? Plus, if you upgrade and really keep your cars up like many of us do, you'll never get your investment back). Frustrating, and a fact of life, especially in LA. I loved having to pay my deductibles for something I had no control over and no fault in, not to mention the weeks the car is in the shop, but have come to accept that that's the way it is...

And the guy not even having the decency or common courtesy not to apologize when you were right there!? Makes me mad just thinking about it! Gotta get back into yoga...

Anyway, glad you're ok and all's well :-)

I've made 3 insurance claims in my short life for car accidents:

1) car hit in the middle of the night in front of my grandfather's house during college
2) car hit in parking lot in the middle of the night in college dorm
3) car hit in the middle of the night in front of my in-laws house

I've never been in the car during an "accident." I've seen my car hit once though. Was watching as a guy backs up and swipes it. He paid me to have it fixed and insurance never knew about that one.

So 4 hits on my parked cars over the years.

Ross...

Hope everything with the wife was OK. Geez, now there's a situation in which I would've flown off the handle too actually. Not my car, with my pregnant wife?

Yeah I think it was a sympathy purchase in retrospect, but they look so shiny and new in the showroom. Well, probably because they are new and cleaned every day...

Anyway, I thought of spending the money in a Ferrari but I want a good daily driver. We'll see what's next.

i feel for you taek, but at least you weren't in the car at the time ! nice sympathy purchase btw.

about 10 years ago i was delivering a nice series 1.5 e type for my father from chicago to ohio. i had my pregnant wife along with me for the ride. the car ran well and the trip was great until....about 460 miles into the 500 mile trip, i was stopped at a red light, and an 18 wheeler didn't stop in time and ran over the back of the car !!! i didn't realize what was happening until i turned around to see his front license plate about 6'' from my head when he stopped! i got my wife out of the car, then i went berserk. the guy reversed off of the jag and got out of his truck. he was about 50, no teeth, no insurance, drivers license suspended etc etc. the cops finally came and sorted out the particulars, but had no idea what kind of car it was, asked me what kind of kit car it was !!!
the insurance company didn't want to write it off, so the car was completely rebuilt to the tune of about $30k.
you can never account for stupid people out there.

Errr...

I'm 27. I don't think I'd react that way even if I were 17! Funny story though.

What it boils down to is that my knee jerk reaction is always to make sure everyone is OK. After that, what more can you do...

You can always replace a car. But you can't enjoy it from behind bars!!

I've always been a kind of happy go lucky type of guy. It works in situations like this. Botton line is, it wasn't intentional and everyone is entitled to make mistakes. I just hope he learns from this and is more careful. He might not be so lucky next time.

Wow, you reacted very calmly. When I was 17 I drove a Fiat sypder convertible. I was rear ended waiting for a light near Disneyland . As soon as I got hit I looked to make sure my date was fine. I jumped out of the car and pulled the guy that hit me out of his car and beat him unconscious. Guy was laying out cold when the police and parmedics got there.I told them he didn't have his belt on and must have hit the steering wheel. They got the truth the next day and I got a small fine and had to do community service for a weekend. Boy I miss those days, being under 18 and a hooligan and getting a slap on the wrist.

You know...

It wasn't my intention to do this. I went to talk to one of the guys about how much this would be, if it was a total loss etc.

DAMN THOSE TEST DRIVES!! They just build up all these emotions, you know?

In all seriousness I'm happy with the purchase. Now if only the right Ferrari would rear it's head...

I hope the Cabrio is not a total loss though. I don't like it when cars get junked. It was a good car.

Honey, last time I went to half moon bay Norman dusted me with his 550. I had to get something to keep up! Blame it on Norm! :-)

Actually, I'll just hand her the keys and pretend nothing happend. When she finds out I'll tell her the upgrade elves must've visited us at night!

Not a convertible, but I actually prefer these cars this way.

I just bought a Silver Turbo!!

Deutsche Autos schauen im Silber gut! JA!

Hehehe. This thing is fast and soooo easy to drive. Won't bring it to the Bay Area FChat meeting because I want to break it in properly, but it'll definitely be there the next one!

Woohoo! Der Turbo ist schnell!

Sorry to all the German folks if I butchered your language. :-)

Should've seen the condition of the car...

He almost broke his front axle just by hitting a pothole.

A Ferrari in the same condition I would deem crappy as well.

As a matter of fact I frequently refer to my potential restoration project as my potential crappy car.

At the time I wanted to post this this board was down, so this is from another post I made in Lamborghini-talk.com. I just HAD to vent!

OK, as if my luck with cars was not crappy enough for the past couple of years (see 40th anniversary thread), someone bashed into my parked daily driver.

I had a 996 C4 Cab (some pictures of it in FChat a while ago). Painful to see. It almost happened in slow motion.

I was just finishing my lunch when I see this idiot in his riced out Honda Civic tear through a turn. He hits a pothole and his crappy car can't hold the line. SMASH!! Next thing you know my rear engine car is now a mid engine car courtesy of Horse's Ass Motorsports. As mentioned in the subject line, my car was PARKED!! The restaurant valet almost took a dump in his pants because he was about to walk in front of it to open the driver's side door for me.

I'm banished to my C5 Corvette econobox until I find a suitable replacement.

I'm pissed (pissed as in angry, not pissed as in drunk by the way ). To top things off, the guy doesn't even apologize. He has the sense to call his girlfriend on his cell phone and about his piece of car, but won't apologize when I'm standing two feet away from him! Sorry for the profanity folks, I'm just incensed right now.

Cheers
