Chris, the Concord/Walnut Creek area has seen a boom that is off the charts. There are now parts of town that are in fact depreciating (!!!). There are some nice dealerships and cars there. It's where I test drove the Vanquish! The key word to my post is CHEAP! I have already spent an arm and a leg and some ears too in getting decent housing. I'm just renting them out to make some money, and build some equity. I live with my wife and two dogs. There really isn't a need for anything special right now. So in an effort to be cheap we're looking elsewhere. We're young enough that we can enjoy the finer things later on. I'll start looking around that area though. I might have missed some spots. I'm sorry, but Vacaville, livermore? Bay Area? If there's no BAY, it can't be part of the bay area. Not trying to be elitist or anything, but I find it silly when people say yeah, I'm in the bay area? Oh yeah, where? Concord... ;-??? --Dan |

I'm guessing your not really going to like much up and down the 880 corridor. Probably a little to old for you. Try to look in Walnut Creek. The drive down 680 in the morning to Pleasanton is not too bad, from what I understand (I work in Fremont, have a coworker living in Walnut Creek and his wife works in Oakland). Walnut Creek has a Prestige Auto dealership (Ferrari & other cool cars) and many exotics roaming the streets, has an upscale feel to it (restaurants, shops) and best of all, does not cost a fortune by Silicon Valley standards. For lower priced housing, you need to go East, away from the San Francisco and San Jose jobs. The 680 cities used to be the boonies, now they're right in the thick of things. Livermore probably isn't east enough. Hell, even Vacaville is considered the Bay Area now. Heading over to 580 to Tracy is cheaper, but that drive is hard. Think long about doing that one. |

If you are considering condos, try Emeryville. It will put you pretty central to Oakland and Berkeley and will put you right on 580/880/80. There are several new condo/townhouse/loft developments in the area. It is an up and coming area and housing prices have just begun to pick up these last couple years. I think you'll do pretty well with one of the new constructions there. |

Never thought of Fremont's Mission Hills or anywhere around Berkeley. I'll give it a look. Milpitas smells awful for the most part. This has been my experience in this area, no offense to anyone. Especially in the summer. I think the dump is around there. Cheers |

Why not buy a boat & park it at Berserkeley Marina or something? |

Vince, Those places are too far from where we need to be. My wife works in Pleasanton and the offices of three of the companies I own are in Oakland, Berkeley, and Hayward. I need to be able to be relatively close to Pleasanton, at least. I'm looking at Hayward, up in the hills, for a condo. Looked around elsewhere in Hayward and found it to be less than desireable. Taek, Look around Napa, Fairfield, and up towards Santa Rosa. The market is still crazy up here, but there are a few out there that I think you would like. Good Luck |

Just came back from looking at some cheaper housing. My wife and I are thinking of making our current home an income property to build equity. Then purchase something small with the least amount down possible. These prices are still ridiculous in the Bay Area. Geez. What are some good places to get a decent smaller house? I'm having to resort to condos right now, which is fine because they rent out easily enough. Its just that the dogs probably won't appreciate it much. And I only get two community garage spots.
