Remember, when you get it, ask about your one year FREE membership to the SCCA. I know the dealers here in Texas offer it.

Get a HKS Type II Racing BOV. Its overkill for any setup you may get.

Blow off valves do sound pretty cool. Get one because of it's utility though. There are companies out there that are making them simply for the sound, meaning the louder the better. They even have some where you can adjust how loud it is.

That stuff is rubbish. Concentrate on ones that have tried and true use. They WILL save your turbo if you do a lot of aggressive driving and track driving.

BOV's sound cooler than turbo timers. One of my friends had one on his WRX for a few months before he wrapped it around a phone poll. I loved the psshhht sound it made whenever he let off under boost.

Forgot to add, about one minute is enough for decently fast street driving. If you are doing drag racing then two minutes should be ok. If you track the car and spool the crap out of the snail then you should wait 5 minutes at most. A better turbo investment is a blow off valve. It'll do your turbo good. A lot more good than a turbo timer.

Also, the waiting time is not for the turbo to spool down. The turbo goes from insane rpms to pretty much a dead stop as soon as you let go of the gas. The turbo is cooled by oil, and the waiting period is for the turbo to cool properly so that no deposits are left or so that the metal (turbine blades) won't warp after repeatedly leaving it when it's red hot.

Brian,

Turbo timers are overrated unless you run your turbo HARD. There won't be a need to sit with your car unless you just finished a spirited drive.

What about a normal drive not exceeding 3000-4000 rpms. Do I need to let the car idle for a little before shutting it off. A turbo timer voids the warranty...not an option. I would certainly sit with my baby if I was running the car hard, however it redlines at 7,000.

Basically...when would I need to sit with the car, and wait for the turbo to spool down, and when can I just leave it?? How high can I run the engine before I need to stay and let her spool down??

Vince, still waiting to hear from you

If you don't want to sit around your car for a few minutes waiting to turn it off, then just buy a turbo timer.

Noel raises good points. Always let the engine idle to let the turbo cool down. If you just shut if off, the oil will cake up in the hot turbo. Synthetic oil is far better for turbos because it isnt affected by heat nearly as much as regular oil. You dont have to change it every 3-5k miles if you use synthetic. Oil change intervals would be 10k at the minimum.

I had a Celica All-Trac Turbo in the late 80's. I bought a HKS turbo timer to let the engine idle after I shut it off. It was $200 and I could park, shut off the car and lock it and walk away. The timer would all the car to idle and let cool oil go throught the engine and allow the Turbo to "spool down"

Brian,

As for maintenance, pay special attention the oil since it's a turbo engine.

- Change the oil religiously (every 3-5k miles).
- Use synthetic oil.
- Avoid redlining while the engine is still cold.
- Do not shut off the engine immediately after a good drive. Let the engine idle for 3-5 mins to allow the turbo to spool down.
- Easy on the clutch, Subaru dealers are not warranty-friendly dealers.

Enjoy!

Brian,

Congratulations,

It's a car that I think you'll keep clean no matter the color. That car is pretty awesome and has a good racing heritage The car itself is quite a responsibility.

I told a collector the other day that I had bought my dream car. He replied: "GREAT!: everybody should have a sweetheart!" I think he's right, treat her that way.

Enjoy!

I'll drop you an email about burroughs.

I am indeed getting the car. I really think silver is the way to go. Black is a big responsibility to keep clean. I would rather have the silver...however your black 348 is stunning.

I just got back from the dealership. One guy has a brand new 2004 in Silver, with everything I want. The MSRP comes out to be like 26,500. We negotiated him down quite a bit, but what do you think I should end up paying. I decided on silver. Easier to keep clean. I never get tired of silver cars. The only problem is that my neighbor has a silver 2003. I dont want his car to influence the color that I really want, after all, its my car not his.

Hey Brian,

You probably saw it, but just in case, the last issue of Road & Track (with the Saleen on the cover) just did a big comparo between the STi and the Mitsubishi Evo Lancer. They both seem pretty impressive, but if you're serious, you should definitely read the article.

Good choice make sure to get the 04 - the tach is now on the middle. Also, get the sedan since it has the flaired fenders. Do not pay SRP. Negotiate to at least $500 over invoice or below.

Good luck & drive carefully.

Black with black rims. Saw one (obviously not an STi though) the other day, looked killer.

Awesome, congratulations!

3 of my friends have the WRX, Silver, Black and WRC Blue- and black is definetly the least good looking of all. Silver is nice but could potentially get boring, some people say its feminine. I personally love the WRC blue color, but its your car, not mine :-) . Oh yeah, get the spoiler, no question.

Hey Guys,
I just wanted to keep yall updated on my car situation. I have been lusting over this WRX for over 6 months now. My parents have been out of town for a long time now, almost 3 weeks. My mother returned home last night. This morning she spoke to my father on the phone, and he told her that he has made up his mind on what should happen, and wants us to go to a Subaru dealer, find the one that I want, and negotiate a price. THIS IS HUGE. He has never mentioned the car before. I have always had to bring it up. My father is also a very strait shooter, doesn't sugar coat things, or beat around the bush. My Mom and I both think hes totally serious, and ready to buy the car!! We got the impression that he does not want to spend lots of time messing around with this issue, he just wants to buy the car, and be done with it. Next week I have finals, so I am hoping that I can pick up the car right after my World Civ II final!! Since everything was closed today, I am going tomorrow with my mother right after classes to take a look at whats on the lot. What do you think....silver or black for a 2004 WRX? Sorry for the whole post, I'M ECSTATIC!!!
