I understand very well that I made an uniformed decision. First time I have ever been in a situation with tires where it was neccesary to do so. I suppose what the real beef with them is that they did not offer to sell me the cheaper, more up-to-date model which is a lot less money. I was given 2 options and I took the less expensive road. I think there was a certain realization on their part that I did not have much of a choice and the guy with the nice car can afford to splurge a bit on the pricier tires. There is nothing wrong with the tires. In fact, I think they are a improvement above and beyond the stockers. I am just kind of bothered about having to spend an extra $70 per tire because I was in a tight spot, thats all. And I won't name the store, because I think they still offer a good product/service. I feel like I have given them a lot of good business over the years and that relationship was not taken very seriously on their part this time.

I always research my tires and view the prices on www.tirerack.com. Discount tire will match tirerack.com's price plus S&H. How can it be libel if he didn't mention the name? ...OK, I see you noticed that too. |

Not to be a party pooper, but how exactly did you get "screwed"? That's a pretty strong word to use, and actually I would tend to think your badmouthing of them would give you some liability if they decided to sue you for slander (or libel, I forget which is which). You didn't mention the name, and I probably wouldn't if I were you. Anyhoo, on to the tires. There is nothing wrong with selling discontinued tires. It's not like they are milk and expire a month after they are sold. Did they specifically tell you this was the latest and greatest? Tire Rack sells discontinued tires all the time. The Michelin MXX3 has been discontinued for a long time but alot of Viper guys snap them up wherever they can find them - because they prefer OEM tires over the replacements. I don't see why the tire shop "owes" you the newer tires? It sounds to me like you made an uninformed buying decision and now you want to get your money back on something that isn't returnable. What are they gonna do with 2 used tires? They're trash if they take them back. Why should they pay for 2 tires because you didn't make an informed decision? Now, if you were lied to about the product, then you have a rightful beef. Did they lie? |

Oh, I forgot to mention that they put a good size scratch in one of my wheels. They did agree to fix it, although reluctantly. Going to have to be without a spare for a week while pay to have it refinished. Who knew a $10 flat repair would turn into such a mess. |

Chris, Just so you know, Jano & James own a tire place. I don't know that it helps in your situations, but it might be useful. |

Well, if I may, buy four tires from another place, letting them know they've lost your business for going back on their word. Keep the overpriced set for track use or another emergency (sell on ebay?). Emergency tire situations suck! |

I got shafted by a local tire dealer selling me older model tires that are $50 more than the newer model replacements from another dealer. I had a bad flat and I had to replace the fronts on the spot so they would be even on wear. I had the choice between the same Dunlop SP9000s I had which were blatently overpriced and a nice set of Yokohamas. Since I had no way to research them I made a decision and went with the cheaper Yokohamas. I had them order the rears to complete the set since the current ones were wearing down anyway and put a deposit down. Come to find out today, (confirmed with the Yokohama corp office) that model was discontinued August 2002. I went in at lunch and convinced them very calmly that I needed a full matching set and they were going to match the competitions price on a full set of the new replacement model. Turns out it is only a few bucks more for the full set of new ones compared to the 2 front older models. They were just going to take the older models back and eat it on the deal. Made me happy. (I have spent a large amount of $ in the past with them for other cars, just not this store location) Apparently that motivated them to get off their A$$ and look for the old ones. They found some at a dealer in another state. Now they say that they won't take them back and to take it or leave it essentially. SO, now I am in the hole for an overpriced set of discontinued tires (again, the newer replacements are even cheaper). I need to get a full matching set and they are the ONLY ones I have found who can get them. It is going to cost me a good $300 more to go with the OLDER tires. Since I already put a deposit down, am pretty much over a barrel on it? Of course the manager left early today and won't be back till tommorow. Any ideas? |
