This isn't exactly a new phenomenon. A friend did the same thing to his brand new Pontiac GTO in the late '60s. It's too easy to dismiss this poor dweeb as a twit. But Scoobie lost one of its works WRXs in this year's Sno*Drift rally the same way -- shift to 2nd instead of 4th. On ice, instead of lunching the mill the car slid into the trees. Rally over for that car. Most of us have missed a shift at some time. Usually we catch it before it gets to this point. (A clutch isn't a binary device.) Okay, maybe the big "boom box" stereos on "riced up" Japanese cars makes it a bit harder to hear the car "talking to you" before it grenades, in some cases. But drivers make mistakes. Some are more painful than others.

I worked for a Toyota dealership and an Acura dealership. I was at Toyota when the current generation Celica came out, and was always hearing from Toyota land about morons who don't know how to shift right or aren't careful enough to do it correctly zing an engine to 10,000 rpm by downshifting instead of upshifting. Of course, a stupid downshift isn't covered by the warrenty, so Toyota was like "ok, stupidity is not covered in our warrenty, that will be $8000 please." Same story at Acura when the RSX Type S came out. Some people would think they have more skill than they have and gernade the engine. At least learn how to drive it if you're going to DRIVE it. |

Wow. Looks like the little car had a heart attack & died. I also don't understand why he's taking it apart, thats easy. Putting it all back together CORRECTLY is a different story. What a Dingus. |

Isn't that just the ricer genepole exercising its Darwinian role of natural selection? The natural progression of order. Nature thinning the herd.

Ouch!!! Hearing stories like this had me freaked out enough to install a UUC SSK, clutch bushings and tranny mount enforcers - and I'm still VERY careful when shifting! |

Ahhhh.. hahahahahaha!! Money shift! Ok, ok, so even if he DIDN'T money shift, since thats a mistake people can make at 25mph let alone at redline, but.. what moron downshifts a street car at 7k RPM? I have little sympathy for him. Lesson learned the hard way. Now, time to get to bed if I can keep myself from laughing s'more about this.. Sunny |
