Peter, that is a great article on the subject. John I think the idea is a good one in theory but I really don't see why we can't go one step further and just eliminate public schools entirely. IMO public schools are just subsidized babysitting anyway. The real flaw I see with the voucher idea is it still does not make it fair for people that do not have children. We should all be responsible for our own kids. The way it is now part of everyones tax dollars goes to the school system whether they have kids or not. The way I see it if you can't afford to have kids don't have them. I know this sounds a bit radical, and I am sure it is not going to sit well with many people but I would like to see a complete switch to a private run system. IMO it will not only cause real competition, it will also level the palying field for all taxpayers. You guys can feel free to flame me at your discretion. |

Sounds like a good idea to me so far... Although I do not know the details... There are a lot of affluent areas near me where residents pay high taxes due to the excellent public school system in these respective towns and villages.. Screws residents who don't have kids, or have kids that are already grown.. since the school budget takes a huge chunk out of the town's revenue.. |

I was debating this over drinks tonight, what are your opinions on the tax voucher system for schools, where taxpayers can direct their tax dollars to any school they wish, or use them as a credit towards private school tuition. Thoughts? |
