DES-

I feel for you, manual labor jobs are tough...

Before heading back to school and after quitting my real job, I worked at a custom Golf shop in CT. thinking whoa, this would be fun, doing something involving my hobby and relaxing... NOT... It was back breaking work, customers would walk in expecting you to drop whatever it is you're doing to cater to their custom needs... NOBODY ever tipped, even the guys who ask for personalized favors... There were even occasions I literally drove to people's home for rush delivery on clubs, because they had to have their putter for their golf club outting the next day...

I did get to see a lot of high end cars pull up the driveway like Aston Martin DB7's, 360's, more SL Mercedes' than I wish to count.. But after a while, even the thrill of being around that grew thin...

Scott-

I feel for you, 1/3 of my graduating class are UVA undergrads who don't have jobs lined up at all... When I left school, only about 60% of graduating law students had offers and this is from a solid top 25 law school... Keep in mind among those 60%, at least half of them took offers doing things they don't even want to do...

Kenny,

I have thought about B-school over and over again. However, I'm really hesitant to go back to school with over $150k in education loans right now. Another 2 years and upwards of an additional $100k doesn't sound all that appealing.

Moreover, I don't want to be a quitter and give up on the whole law thing before I really have a chance to experience what it's like.

Kendall - i'm not sure... 50 of those hours were at time and a half, so they come out to be $10.13 per hour x 50 hours, + 40 hours straight pay only comes out to $776.25 - i guess i was working more than 90 hours a week... Over 100, it seems, if i do the math... Ct was a blur most of the time, anyway... i had two jobs at one point and wound up working 36 straight hours, once; non-stop, no sleep, no nothing one job right into the other... When i finally got home, i slept for 22 hours...

Scott, sorry to hear that...

When i lived in Connecticut, i worked at a gas station, some 90 hours a week; Was making $6.75 an hour, but was pulling in $800+ a week, after taxes... You could always do that until something opens up...

...or you could just call Whart. :-)

Someone suggest he opt for the latter.:-)

"Scott..Of course its Kosher, for God sakes! This is a community of higher-end individuals, not a bunch of slobs looking for a handout! "

I didn't want to come off as the slob looking for a handout among higher-end individuals.

Okay, so all the areas I know absolutely nothing about. WMHart, an Fchatter, does entertainment/IP in NY. Maybe he can offer some advice.

Have you considered the JAG corps? Friend of mine is it. Good pay, better hours and looked upon very favorably by private employers.

Scott..Of course its Kosher, for God sakes! This is a community of higher-end individuals, not a bunch of slobs looking for a handout! Any lawyer that reads this and see's you have talent would be foolish not to see what they can do for you. I would re-post your situation and ask some of the lawyer members to see if they can help you out....

Interested in a variety of things...

I mainly took courses in the following areas: corporate, tech/IP, and employment. I was on an entertainment law journal, and was a music writer/editor whose note was on an internet copyright issue.

I would like to do corporate work. At this point, I'm indifferent to whether it's transactional or litigation. I am not opposed to other areas (health, tax, employment). Honestly, I am not too interested in criminal, insurance, PI, or workers compensation.

In an ideal world, I would be working with entrepreneurs, VC's or tech companies doing trademark/copyright, articles of incorporation, financing deals. Of course, the Valley seems dead right now and Austin appears to be dead permanently (I think Boston is in just as rough shape as SV).

Hope that answered your question; if not, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

I had thought about it, but wasn't sure if asking for help with a job would be kosher.

gracias.

Scott..Since there is a good handful of lawyers on this forum, you should make another post asking one of them to try to help you out. I bet you will get some good replies. Make it a mini resume and be upbeat. You just may be suprised:-)

I need a job. Nothing like wasting seven years at top undergrad and law schools and be 1) unemployed, and 2) unable to make your loan repayments.

Sorry, but I'm stewing in my failures tonight.
