Original Joe's in San Jose and San Francisco. Actually saw a waiter there, many years ago now, ask a customer to leave when he asked for ketchup to put on his steak.

Porter House in the Beau Rivage in Mississippi. You better have some serious cash to eat there too. They have those $100 steaks that are from japan (name slipped my mind). I tried a piece of one, and actually, my bone-in filet was better!

Peter Luger's is IT (Brooklyn only, the one in Glen Cove is okay but no match for the original) if you are a true steak lover.

However, if you also like a good wine with your steak, Sparks is pretty good. Just ask for the No Shooting section (lame Paul Castellano joke!)

Kenny,

Sometimes it's hard to remember anything after you've ingested pounds of fantastic beef and liters of beer and quarts of tequila. :-)

It'll come to me....La Lomo something or other...I'll figure it out.

Vincent.

Not owned by the mob, although a favored hangout over the years. I was in there once, years ago, when in walked Ray Liotta, just after Goodfellas came out. All the patrons almost fell off their chairs: "Hey, Tony, its de guy from de movie." Remember, in mobland, there are only a few acceptable movies, Godfather III doesn't count, but Goodfellas and Casino do.
Anyway, it was run before WWII by a surly German who charged more for his steaks than the places in Manhattan. Today, i believe it is owned by a "family" of the non-mafia kind.
The steaks are aged porterhouse, like big, fat T-bones, cooked at very high temp in alot of butter. Part of the magic is the quality of the meat, part is the prep; the steak is sliced and usually shared by two people. You are a man if you can do a "double" by yourself. If you ask for a menu, you are immediately classified as a tourist. Good place. Atmosphere of an old beer hall, waiters are gruff, located in shitty neighborhood, takes only cash, unless you have a PL credit card.(Sparks has the best wine list of all the steak houses, bar none, in the NY area, and the prices are very reasonable).

There is a place in Mexico city that serves only Argentinian beef, I don't remember the name but it had Argentina in it. I've been there 5 or 6 times and I have NEVER eaten a better steak yet.

Damn it...all this talk about steak is making me hungry. I've been living in Europe for the past five years+ and the closest I've found to a "decent" steak house is a place in Augsburg Germany called "Jon Benton's", also the closest thing I've found to an American style baked potato with "real" sour cream. I've been to Italy, Austria, Spain, England, Holland, France, Czech Republic, Kosovo, Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Monaco, and some others I've forgotten about. NOTHING beats a good old American steak! If anyone has ANY European recommendations please let know. Damn I'm hungry for a good steak :-)

mmmmm STEAAAK! (best homer voice)
My favorite steak places are
Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa Florida. Nice place, take the tour. The wine cellar is impressive.
The Pacific Dining Car in Los Angeles is also very good.
Finally, Shula's Steak House in Orlando is a favorite of mine.
What are some other good steak places out here in Los Angeles?

Haven't been to many of these places, but I love Morton's and Smith and Wollensky. Those whipped potatoes are amazing!

The best I've had is a hole in the wall restaurant in Argentina. Found it while I took a semester off college and travelled South America. There was another in Peru that was fantastic as well.

The best I recognize is La Caban(tilde)a Criolla. It's in Gran Canaria, Spain. I don't know if the establishment is still there, but they had an absolutely amazing menu. And everything tasted fantastic. Frequented them for about 10 years in my youth. Always took me a while to order because I wanted a little of everything and could only pick one or two things. Yummy...

Cheers

When we were in Cabo, we went down to the marina where they have a Ruth's Chris, among other great restaurants. My buddy got all excited and always wanted to go and eat there. I had a hard time understanding the logic there, since he lives 10 minutes from one in Chicago and never eats there!

I went to Peter Luger's for the first time a week ago, and I must say it was awesome! Love the simplicity of the menu! LOL...

I also like Morton's and Spark's are also great. Ruth's is good. I also enjoyed Frankie and Johnnies. All in NYC.

Ruth's Chris is overrated. My shoes would taste good if they were finished in the amount of butter RC uses!

In Chicago, I like The Saloon, Erie Cafe, Gene & Georgetti. Steaks are like Italian food to me; I can make either fairly well at home, so to go out for it, it should be better than just average.

#1. Delmonico's, Las Vegas and New Orleans
#2. Bob's Steak and Chop House, Dallas and San Francisco.
#3. Del Friscos, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, New York. They used to be better, but since they went 'corporate' and expanded all over the universe their quality has slipped.

Eat Steak by Reverand Horton Heat

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Cowpokes'll come from a near and far
When you throw a few rib-eyes on the fire
Roberto Duran ate two before a fight
'Cause it gave a lot of mighty men a lot of mighty might

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Eat meat, eat meat, filet mignon
Eat meat, eat meat, ear it all day long
Eat a few T-bones till you get your fill
Eat a new york cut, hot off the grill

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.

Eat a cow, eat a cow 'cuase it's good for you
Eat a cow, eat a cow it's the thing that goes "Mooooo"

Look at all the cows in the slaughterhouse yeard
Gotta hit'em in the head, gotta hit'em real hard
First you gotta clean'em then the butcher cuts'em up
Throws it on a scale throws an eyeball in a cup

Saw a big Brangus Steer standing right over there
So I rustled up a fire cooked him medium rare
Bar-B-Q'ed his brisket, a roasted his rump
Fed my dog that ol' Brangus Steer's hump

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
