I will second the Canon Elph S400. It is a great selling camera at the store. It is no bigger than a pack of cigs but still takes great pictures. Thad Brown |

OOOOOPS! In THAT case. I have a Sony one of those thingies. That one I'm VERY happy with. I have to dig it out of the closet to find the model number though. With camcorders I've been Sony pretty much all my life so I have very little varied experience. Cheers |

Oh, I forgot the models... Sony is a DSC-P9, and the Canon is a PowerShot S230 (3.2 Megapixel). Cheers |

Ricky, I have an Olympus that's 2.1 megapixels, a Canon (Digital Elph) that's 3.2, and a Sony that's 4.0. My favorite is the Canon. The picture quality for my uses is pretty much the same between the 3.2 and the 4.0. The Canon is much smaller and has just about all the features the Sony does. Also a couple of little things that make it nice: Screen is recessed in the back so it's harder to scratch up. The Sony has the screen kind of protruding which I'm guessing makes it prone to scratches (haven't scratched it myself though). Also the Sony has it's lens on the left extreme of the camera (from the user's point of view), while the Canon has it centered. I've found the Sony is a little better at taking close range (macro) detail shots, and that's about it. There is definitely a big difference between the 2 and 3 megapixels though. I can post some pictures to give you an idea of the size if you'd like. The reason I even got the Sony is because I'm a sucker for marketing schemes. I liked the memory stick feature and it would be great if you have other Sony computing products. I fell for it and bought the memory stick reader and all that silliness. Worst part is that even though I'm fully aware of the degree of my "suckerness" I'm looking at getting a Sony laptop because it has a memory stick slot built in.
Cheers |

am willing to pay up if it's "worth it"...will be used for recreational stuff and travel, nothing too crazy...so portability and battery life are by 2 biggest factors. Thnx |
