Firewire is important, but my Sony also has a USB connection. It's great for editing the still shots that I've put on the memory card, the PC sees it as another drive. It's VERY fast and easy.

Following Faisal's comments, I would advise using the more traditional DV cam that saves in AVI format, which can be edited easily even by consumer-level video editors.

Also, make sure the DV cam has IEEE1394 (Firewire/iLink) output.

I don't know about this model. But I bought Sony's ultra-small IP-7R. It's fantastic, except that the mpeg-4 format it saves in can only be edited by Sony's proprietary and very crappy software called Movie Shaker.

I have since found workarounds that allow me to convert and then edit in the industrial-strength video editing software packages like Adobe Premiere, but I would check this aspect carefully before buying.

CNET has good reviews and buyer feedback. Check there.

Rgds,
Faisal

Ahhh....I see from another thread that you are thinking of buying one.

From my Sony DV cam experience, I can tell you this:

1. Battery life is quite good. I do get about 2 hours out of each battery pack. Of course, this depends on the type of battery pack you use.

2. Portability. My Sony DV cams are not smallest out there, but they fit my hand quite well. Try it out for a few minutes and see how it fits your hand and if the controls are easy to operate.

3. Quality. My first Sony DV cam is over 2 years old and it's still going strong. Screen is good, pic quality is excellent.

Hope this helps!

What issues are you having with it, Ricky?

All my DV, regular digital, and analog cams are made by Sony. Thus far, I don't have any issue with them.
