A lot of people will disagree on this. If you go to www.pim.net they have lots of cars for sale, but I think they simply ask too much for them. To me, I think you need to spend $25K+ to get a decent one. Anymore than $35K and it must be a really nice car--modern upgrades, good paint, etc. Don't let upgrades and mods scare you off. Very few Panteras have survived stock. Mods and upgrades do not hurt the value, they actually strengthen it. Of course, there are the GT5S's from the 1980's the demand a higher dollar value--around $50K. Also, there were GTS's, but the U.S. version (unlike the European) was different in cosmetics only, yet they still seem to bring in high $30's (only about 140 US GTS's). Parts are quite plentiful. There are several vendors (I'd say 5 off the top of my head) who carry anything you can think of. It really is amazing that amount of parts that are available for such a low-production car, that the majority of in the US are 1971-1974. Parts are not that expesive either, nothing like a Ferrari. And if you're into mods, you can pump up the stock 351C to put out plenty of power (stroke it, full inject it, turbo it, whatever). Going to www.panteraplace.com will give you tons of info, if you want more, just email me, I can give you lots and point you in the right direction for more. |

Cool video. The Pantera has grown on me a lot since I have been introduced to it. Whats the going price for a good one today? How hard are they to maintain? Parts costs? I imagine since it had a Ford engine that it couldn't be worse than a Ferrari for parts. |

The Pantera was featured on Car & Driver Television this past weekend. Actually it's about a 3 year old segment they just reaired. Still, nice to see. The one they show is an L model, which was the culmination of tougher US laws for the Pantera, resulting in bigger bumpers, less power, and less performance. Most owners since then have beefed their motors up, so it doesn't matter much in the end anyway. Some of the video they show from the 1970's is pretty neat too. C&D gets a couple of facts wrong too, saying the Pantera was produced by DeTomaso until the 1980's, when actually it was the 1990's. The top speed (stock) was not 145, but 160mph. Of course, those present day beefed up motors are going more than that, some hitting 200 and beyond. Whats the top speed of mine? I'll never find out! The "Car and Driver TV" Pantera can be viewed in a small size version (7MB) at: http://homepage.mac.com/martinmitchell/iMovieTheater17.html Or you can download the larger version (25MB) directly at: http://homepage.mac.com/martinmitchell/FileSharing18.html QuickTime is required and is free. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
