I'd be very happy to even close to a 5-figure price for my '81 2000 Turbo Spider. $32K is crazy for a 1982 stock one. Maybe $5-6k tops.

You have to really love the car to spend the money. I bought an 84 Pininfarina 6 months ago for $10K and have already put into it another $4K in parts. The car was $17K brand new and by the time I am done with this total restoration project I will have spent close to that.

A 2000 Spider rust free with A/C and everything working, good top etc. is worth around $4500.

Now on the other hand a 85 1/2 Pinanfarina Spider is a steal @ anything less than 10K in good condition. I am still kicking myself for not buying one that sold recently here in Dallas for $5500.

I saw a Spider 2000 at the local car lot for $3K.
JRV convinced me THAT was too much. I can lead you
to two different 124 Spiders in Houston, sitting quietly in the weeds!

The only way I can see spending that much on that car is if you REALLY love it and plan on keeping it FOREVER.

The simple fact is it's easy to be underwater. The other fact is underwater by it's very name means you won't get the money back. That being said anybody who spent 32K on a FIAT Spider is just nuts!! I had way to much in a Scorpion @ 15K. I traded that car for the mechanical work on my Maserati Indy.

The simple fact is you want to stay with cars that are valued @ 25K or more. You might be a little upsidedown, but people who can spend 25K, either have or know were to get the money.

People who are going to purchase a 3 go 5K car don't have the means to spend 20 or 30K.

He had already drowned by that time. He may as well throw in the carpets and mark it up another $15,000. Hell, why not round it off to $20,000 for a total selling price of 50K. After all it's worth it, right?

I think he stopped short of putting the new carpets in when the Fiat Mechanic informed him they cost $5K plus instalation. He must have realized at that point he was going to wind up underwater on the restoration if he kept spending like that.

Yah forgot to mention, that I will take 25K for my 81. And I just got the new carpet installed and it comes with the optional hard top.

Well here this explains it( I'm assuming the $32K includes the cost of gas, oil changes, tires, insurance, etc., etc, since new)either that or that FIAT mechanic is one hellava salesman:

>>I am not the original owner of this 1992 Fiat Spider 2000, but purchased the vehicle in May 2001. The vehicle has been fully restored with the exception of new carpet. The total costs of restoration were $32,500 which includes labor & parts. The maintenance was performed by a Fiat specialist, and I have all maintenance reports and records prior to sell and after my purchase & the title is clear.<<
