They are still producing Guaras. Not to the US unfortunately. I think they are neat little cars, though I don't care for the no-windshield spyder. The SUV for the Russian market is the UAZ, and I don't think they've ever actually started selling those. |

Actually they only produced a hand full of Guara's. Their "current" car is a Russian SUV they are putting engines in and A/C... etc. for the European market. |

We visited with Mrs. DeTomaso and her dogs last summer when we toured their facilities. Good people. The current car (Guara) had IMO some Corvette C5 design cues, but I believe they will stick with Ford power. I wish the family the best. |

Of course the DeTomaso family owns much of the commercial building around them. I heard something about them having some stake in the mall. Let's just say they are not hurting for money. I am sure the DeTamso motorcars is little more than a distraction. The also own a rather nice hotel in Downtown. The Canalgrande. http://www.canalgrandehotel.it/. I highly suggest it for trips to Modena. Marci and I are planning on booking the garden suite again on our next trip. |

Yes, it's amazing he held on as long as he did. After his stroke in '93 he wasn't expected to survive. But right up until this most recent illness and consequent death, he was still personally signing paychecks even. Matt, Marci has lunch with Mrs. DeTomaso last in 2001. She was running the factory at that time. Alejandro was still doing some designs with the help of his nurses. I was guess that the family will keep the factory open as a museum at least. It would not surprise me to see the farm and horses discontinued though. Rodney |

He was the last of them. All the original Italian car owners are dead now, most sold out long before their death anyway. Alejandro DeTomaso was the only sole, original owner, of the Italian sports car makers (newcomers like Pagani not included). The factory says they will continue in the same direction, but I would imagine the next few weeks could be very interesting, as Mr. DeTomaso was known to have basically been keeping the factory open as more pride than anything. Still would like to have a new Guara.... |
