Racing is not everything. Street cars are NOT race cars. One-offs are not production racing cars. These are just niche vehicles that add glamor to the entire line that all but the very top echelon of society can afford. I am in NO WAY jealous of these one-off cars. On the contrary I am very thrilled from a technical/performance aspect that these cars provide. I WANT niche cars to be made. Diabolo GT, Carrera GT, and Enzo etc.... They look great in the magazines. For me they begin and end in the magazines. I just as well could place an order for a F-16C Block 60. As far as Lamborghini they produce fine street GT cars. The cars have some racing components. Like Ferrari's current GT street cars they are mixed with features that make the car useable and friendly. Lamborghini took some very talented Ferrari engineers in the mid 1960's. Their results of producing street GT cars with racing components is absolutely spectacular. |

"decided to utilize the expertise of their [Lamborghini's] formula one team for development" I would not brag about this! Ernesto |

Ok, let me dispel this myth for everyone on the board once and for all. The Dodge Viper engine was NEVER a truck engine and it did not originate with Lamborghini, but in the mind of Bob Lutz. First, at the time Lutz was designing the Viper, Dodge didn't even have a V10 truck engine, although the truck engine was simultaneously under development. Ultimately it was decided that an Iron block truck engine would be too heavy and thus it was decided that Team Viper would build an aluminum V-10, which was designed specifically for the Viper and has never been in a factory Dodge truck. Since Chrysler owned Lamborghini, Jim Royer (in charge of engine development) decided to utilize the expertise of their formula one team for development. Although Lamborghini assisted significantly in developing the aluminum block, ultimately much of it had to be redesigned due to reliability issues before the final product was created. Hope that is informative. |

I was involved with some development on the air intake system for the viper way back, working with Purolator. I believe that Chrysler consulted Lambo on the design of the intake plenum, and some other top end components. |

Never heard about the connection. The Viper engine is basically a beefed up Dodge truck engine. The Lambo you are thinking about was the "Canto" which never panned out. I thought it looked pretty good though. I think I recall seeing it in Monterey. |

As I remember that engines life started out as a V8 and they grafted on 2 more cylinders. Or so they said in the original need for speed game. And yes I believe there were using a similar block in trucks too. |

I don't think so because the v10 engine used in the Viper is actually a truck engine or has truck engine origins ... so I believe. Pete |

Heard a story long time ago and was wondering if its actually true, here goes: When Chrysler owned Lamborghini they wanted a baby brother for the Diablo to be powered by a v10. They developed a V10, but the project never panned out, Lambo was sold and the v10 they had designed found its way into the Viper. True? |
