Depends. Based on the improvement in stiffness, I would like to trade for an '03. The local dealer is working out what kind of coin that will cost. If that answer seems too expensive, I will first drive to my local BMW dealer, and see about an M3 cab. If no go there, then I'll stop at the Porsche dealer and see about either a Boxster S or 996 cab. Since the car is leased, a dealer is going to have to be willing to buy out the lease or pay me cash for the car (in exchange for title) and allow me to buy out the lease. I've never done this before, so I'm a little lost on what might go on. I feel that I need to be responsible for my original decision to get an '02, which translates into not wanting to take it in the shorts to get out from under it. So I may end up driving my '02 for the duration. |

I just had the opportunity to drive a new '03 spyder back to back with my '02. Some thoughts/observations: 1) The back window is now glass with a defroster. Clarity will rule, but it is a bit smaller than the plastic window it replaces. 2) New wheels (standard) better show off the brake hardward and look much easier to clean than the stock "many spoke" wheels on the '02. 3) The radio display has been modified, and reception seems better. 4) The newest software for the F1 offers improved smoothness shifting at all RPM's, and quicker engagement at low RPM's in sport mode and smoother take offs from a standstill. 5) IT IS STIFFER! Yes, it still has cowl shake, but it does feel noticable more solid (though I'm not sure how it ranks compared with, say, a Mercedes). 6) Perhaps because of (5) above, the steering seems to have both more feel and be more precise. |
