Steve--the interior of your car looks great. KDS--good advice. Chris A--my numbers aren't off, but I though using sticker gives a common reference point. I got into the car in the 77K range, and this coupled with the fact that I can use pre-tax dollars to pay for a portion of the cost makes this less painful than my original post might seem. Still, you make a good point that anyone who paid sticker, and purchased vs. leased, has really been sacked. Of note, I was by the dealer yesterday. There are a host of updates that my car will get (new software, possibly a new clutch, a silencer blanket for around the tranny, new valve cover gaskets, etc. etc.) The dealer has not yet agreed that there is any fix for the crappy radio reception. There was a previous post by someone in Europe who indicated that they were having their entire audio system replaced, but I haven't heard that for here. BTW, Steve, what continent are you and you car on? |

Hi, I own a '03 Coupe Cambiocorsa... The cowl shake is a definite problem for '02 Spyders. The 03's were firmed up & should have less shake. This is not an issue at all for the Coupes. Other problems for 02s: Poor radio reception (these are being replaced by Maserati) and clunky CambioCorsa paddle shifting, also being remedied by Maserati (not an issue on '03s).

Scott.... Sounds like you're paying for the lease with pre-tax dollars....so your actual cost is much less I'm assuming. If you've got 31 months left, I'd ride it out until at least month 18 or so where you usually start to come close to washing out.....depending on the car and marketplace of course. Didn't know these cars had rigidity issues that were that bad......too bad, it's one great looking cabrio. |

Steve, I think your numbers are off. If you picked up a 02 car in March 03 means the dealer must had heavily discounted the vehicle when he calculated your lease payment (assuming you negotiate a bit). If it sticker at 98k I wouldn't be suprise if he worked off a 80 or 85k number. So if a current value of an 02 spider is worth 60k then you suffered a 20-25k dep. hit. It's the guy who bought the 02 spider in early 02 at sticker who would have suffer the bigger hit. |

Doug raises an interesting point that maybe somebody on the board could help me with. Chase allows lease assumptions, but the original leasee (me) still guarantees the lease. To me that means that if the new person defaults or wrecks the car or whatever, Chase comes after me. Is there a separate insurance one can get that covers this? Frank--a good thought but I am too value oriented. I'd rather take the 30+K and add a 308 (or something) to my stable and put up with the Maser. |

Or go to swapalease.com and maybe you can find someone that wants to have 0 down payment and take over the lease. Then you only eat a couple thousand. |

Scott, how much are your lease payments ? Add them up over the period of the remaining lease and see if the amount exceeds the $38k you would lose if you sold now. Since you don't like the car, if the amounts are close to the same I may would sell now, eat the lose and buy something you will enjoy . |

Thanks for the support. The good news (if there is some) is that the car is a business lease. So, while I have to put up with it for the next 2 years, 7 months, 20 days and 15 hours (sob) at least I won't have to take it in the shorts on resale: I will give it back to Chase Automotive Leasing and watch them cry. I mostly pissed at myself for not being more critical during my test drives (damn seductive engine). |

Scott, Fully agree the cowl shake is completely unacceptable. Felt it in vast amounts during my test drive of the Spyder, though i was more interested in the Coupe' and that is a much more solid car. Sad commentary... my 1985 308QV feels more solid than the Spyder(!). As for the price drop, sorry to hear that. Had a coupe' on order, though backed out due to economy in late 2002. In hindsight, it was one of the best financial decisions i have made in years. Sorry to hear of your loss, yet buying ANY car brand new has various downfalls and factors :-( Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

The overall US economic trend (just like Japan) seems to be continued deflation. Jump out while the roof is still open. |

Sorry to hear that Scott. But it is the real market trend and one of the main reason of the sharp depreciation is the cowl shake with the spyder. A trade in with a F-car might be a good alternative.

Well, to me at least. As some of you have read, I am (was) trying to get rid of my '02 Maserati Spyder because of personal issues that I have with the cowl shake present in the car. Sticker was almost 98K, acquired car 3/1/03. Best offer I can get now for the car is 60K. Now I know there are a lot of factors at work here, and I'm not that suprised. Nevertheless, a 39% drop gets my attention. |
