James, I agree that improvements to service and availability of parts would be a very good thing for Lamborghini. Speaking for myself, I find the cross between Audi and Lamborghini an awesome combination. |

A countach clutch job is around $7,000. The carbon fiber clutch is about $5,400 plus the labor of taking the engine out. The diablo is a little more expensive. The factory clutch is a little cheaper but not by much. The best way is with Al Burtoni who guarranties his clutches 12,000 miles or one year, or what ever comes first. Engine rebuild in a 5,000S is about $30,000 or maybe a little more. They say that the easiest and cheapest countach to run is the LP400. The european quattrovalvole '85 up is 455 hp. and the U.S. version is 420hp. but fuel injected. They are good and reliable I was told but it could make one go "broke" if it was a bad example. |

how come vw owns lamborghini when I just saw a murcielago apart and some parts said audi in them? Allan fiedler didnt your father came to lamborghini chat and said that he was sorry because of you saying that all the exotics you talk about are his and that the 355 is your uncle's, whats up with this and that? |

Ralph VW owns' Lambo and that has a huge effect on it. As for the factory program, as it will have to compete with independants, it will have to be priced reasonably and do quality work or people won't use it. As for Ferrari, as it is being spun off from FIAT it will soon, once again be an independant Co. VW is a MUCH healthier Co. than FIAT and that will be very good for Lambo. FIAT has very little involvement with Ferrari whereas VW actively runs Lambo as they run all of their brands. |

Guys, He does have a very strong point. It just means that defunct parts will be easier to acquire even if you have an independent doing the work. Either that or you should be able to get some stuff done by the factory to insure originality. I personally wouldn't go this route due to unnecessary expense and timeframe (except for the parts thing...manufacturing something from scratch would be even more pricey). Also, I believe he mentioned "protecting their heritage". This is indeed crucial. Future models of the marque benefit a lot by showing the public what only the few who understand the marque know. Lamborghinis are some of the best exotics out on the road. They were 40 years ago, and they continue to be. As for VW/Audi? Who cares. I'm glad it wasn't friggin' Hyundai! Also VW/Audi/Bentley/Bugatti which has strong ties to Porsche, are companies that collectively bury Ferrari in everything but F1. Cheers |

Yes Ralph, i noticed that too. He doesnt say Audi, but Vw. Its ok, he's pretty much on the brink of extinction anyway. Alzheimers kicking in, reminiscing about the good old days back in the 20's etc. Besides, we know about Fiat Fiero, i mean Ferrari. |

I would think twice about running to "any" factory for a full resto job. How could any factory compete with the TOP restoration shops ? Is the factory going to restore every nut, screw and bolt; if that is what you are after ? Big $$$$$$$$$$$$$ I just do not see how the factory will have the "time" to devote to a complete restoration. The small independent shop has the time when you have the $$$$$$$$$. I have seen the inside of drum brakes being restored to as new condition. James you seem to very often mention VW with Lamborghini. Do you also mention on occasions Fiat with Ferrari ? |

With VW involvement servicing even older Lambo's will only get better. There will be much quicker availablity of parts and they've said they will make the full line of parts for all Lambo's. They are also setting up factory restoration of older cars so it looks like they're serious about protecting their heritage. Ferrari is doing the same things as well. IMHO this is a very good thing. |

Gary, Im on my 3rd lambo as of now, currently a 98 Diablo Sv which ive owned for several years. Lambos are not like Ferraris were they need to have timing belts replaced every couple of years, hence not a major expense to do a major service. The most major servicing i can think of needing is a valve adjustment. If a clutch does need to be replaced, it is expensive as the motor needs to come out, although ive seen some people do it with motor in car. Some people also have been able to just have the clutch plate resurfaced, thereby greatly reducing the costs involved. |

I was told that a major service on a Diablo is 10,000 and if it needed a clutch tack on 3500.00 more. What are the service Intervals on this car. |
