For those that are interested, I received this today via email: Modena, 25 August 2003 Dear Maseratisti, The Maserati Quattroporte will make its debut at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt on 9 September 2003 as already announced. We take this opportunity to announce that www.maseratiquattroporte.com has been completely updated to enable you to follow the unveiling ceremony of this new car in real time (10:30 am on 9 September). You can also peruse the history of the previous Quattroporte models and admire photos and sketches of the new flagship of the Maserati line-up. After the presentation ceremony, the site will be updated with a variety of texts and images which cover this long-awaited car in full detail. And that is not all. Registered Maserati owners, will also be able to enter the Reserved Area featuring the Quattroporte for an even closer look at the car. Access is limited to the first 350 users who register using the form in the "Maserati Owners" section. We will notify the qualifying users by email by Thursday 4 September, the last day on which you will be able to register for this exclusive event. The confirmation email must be printed for use as an entry pass to the Maserati stand. But we would like to emphasise that this pass only gives access to the Maserati stand, and not to the Motor Show itself. Each qualifying user will also be able to register a guest to accompany them on this special visit. We are also pleased to announce that Maserati.de, the German version of Maserati.com will be online shortly.

>>my friend Sal who they didn't invite because he was "a mechanic"<< That's really sh!tty of them. How stupid can some people get. Glad he was welcome at the Ford GT showing. If you ask me, more exciting than Maserati's 4 door anyway. Fu ck that indeed. Cheers |

Taek I was invited to at Pebble but there were 5 of us including my friend Sal who they didn't invite because he was "a mechanic" so we found something else to do. A private showing of the new Ford GT with it's designer and chief engineer who even though Sal is "only" a mechanic seemed to find something to talk to him about and wound up offering him to show him around their design and engineering dept in Detroit. I could have shown up and Maser would have let us in but as they say in NY. Fu ck That. The problem with a lease on Masers is residual value. Unless they get it up it's a very expensive lease. If you buy a Maser and sell it you take a big hit as well. Moving into the league of MB,BMW,Jag,Bentley or the Cayenne turbo luxury crusiers is the real deal. Best

Didn't folks out there just get beat up by the economy? Crowded indeed. I think these Maseratis would make excellent lease options, but not purchases. Given how some hate leasing it might be difficult to sell the car based on that and what Jim mentioned in his post. Jim, Didn't you get a chance to sit in one of these "in the flesh" or am I mistaking it with another car? Cheers |

Just got back from picking up the 360. Man, almost forgot how good the car feels! Apparently, the Quattroporte will have manual and the Cambiocorsa as the two options. The Cambiocorsa in the Quattroporte is a brand new system and I was told that it's smoother than any previous F1-type systems. I guess we'd have to drive one to find out. |

I thought they're offering 3 transmission options. So the F1/Cambiocorsa is the only way to go? I'm picking up my 360 today (finally!) so I'll ask the dealer for the specifics. I agree that competition is stiff in this segment. With discounting going on, it will be a struggle for Maserati. Not only that, they'd have to compete on service (quality and turnaround time). |

Thats what it looks like and it does seat 5 but I think the lack of a fully automatic trans. will make it a tough sell. This segment is getting very crowded. In todays NY Times there's an article about how much discounting is going on at BMW, MB, and Infinity. IMHO the new Bentley coupe (in this weeks's autoweek) is much more car for only a bit more $. In addition Maser resale is a total disaster. |
