Jeff - that's a great book! The only problem is that there is no FI information. No big deal, though, as I've got a few other resources for that.

What I am quite pleased about is the info on the roll cage. I'd been looking everywhere for some info on a roll cage, but could find none.

Thanks a bunch for the trouble of sending it. I just put a check in the mail for ya.

Again, thanks a lot!

Thanks a bunch, Jeff. I'm am looking forward to it's arrival.

I'm in the middle of a setback, though. The flange mount holding the header to the cat-back system was in the process of removal when I snapped *both* of the heads off the bolts holding the two pieces together. I now need a saw-all or something to cut through the exhaust pipe. Ah well.

I also found a cool mod, where a Toyota 2.0l 7-pin MAF is used to increase the airfow and fuel supply. It is compatable with the Fiat computer. Costs about $40 bux, and I'm told that the increase can be 10hp. We'll see!

Again Jeff, thanks a bunch. Expect a lovely check in the mail soon!

Nebula: Book finally went into the mail today (Thursday). Enjoy. At one time I thought about doing a similar project, but my garage is way too full with others.

Well, I pulled the front and rear bumpers off today, as well as the cam tower. Tomorrow I pull the head off, which will be sent out next week to be milled and ported.

While the head is away, I'm going to replace the braking system and battery. Once the head is back, on it goes, and the car will be mobile.

I'm pretty exicted....after that, the body mods come!

You could always turbo charge or volumex super charge for less than a complete transplant. I was running a 16V hot rodded Trevia motor in my Scorpion. Really a fun car with 200HP basically a street legal go cart.

The race mode X should be a great California Rally car. You should be able to embarrass just about anything in a hill climb.

The book cost $5.95. Send me your mailing address in an email, I'll send you the book, you send me $5.95 plus postage if you think it's worth it. Deal? Looks like it would be a fun project.

I've considered putting different motors in it. Engines like the Fiat Uno Turbo engine or an MR2 motor are attractive. But they cost $$$$$.

There are two reasons why I'm doing this with the stock motor. First, doing the head work will cost me about $200, and the exhaust will cost me about $400. That, combined with about $400 in other need-to-do-things (fuel pump, gaskets, etc), brings my total engine mods to $1000 bucks. It will also bump my hp by *maybe* 10hp.

The big gain will come from increasing the hp AND decreasing the weight. If I can dump 400lbs by ditching the windshield, bumpers, etc etc, then I will REALLY feel a difference.

Right now, I've got 85hp @ 2300lbs. That's 27lbs/hp. If I increase hp by ten, it gives me 24lbs/hp. If I increase hp by ten AND decrease the weightby 400lbs, then it gives me 20lbs/hp.

From 27lbs/hp to 20lbs/hp, I should notice quite a gain. I won't win any races, but it will sound pretty nifty, handle like a bastard, and be fun as hell to drive. And total cost will be about $2000, including roll cage, suspension, and engine mods.

Jeff - If you don't want it, I'd love it!

But I'd feel horrible if I didn't give you anything in return. Can I pay for it?

Nebula: Have you got one of these little books? I've had it for years, don't need it, it's yours if you want it. Upload

Want a real boost in power (and lower weight even further)? Drop a Suzuki Hayabusa motorbike engine in it (and with a Quaife ATB Reversible differential to transfer that power to the wheels)...

Any reason a supercharged Toyota 22r wouldn't fit? 100hp is nice, 200 hp is better:-)

I've got an 83 x1/9 that has been my college daily driver for almost two years now. Currently, it's sitting in the front yard, in need of new brakes, new brake lines, and a battery, in addition to a bunch of other non-essential little things. I just acquired a (free) beater that I now use as my daily driver, and I am going to transform the X.

Go to my profile, and you'll see what it looks like now. It's got 123k on the clock, has 85hp, and weighs about 2300lbs. Even with it's shot stuts, it still handles like a little slot car.

I plan to do the following things to it:

1. Remove the windshield and a-pillars, in addition to all electrical accessories and other junk that I don't need or use.

2. Pull the head and have it milled and ported/polished.

3. Install a header.

4. Install a roll cage.

5. Widen the track by an inch or so.

6. Replace the brakes.

7. Replace the seats with light-weight racing seats, and gut the interior.

8. Remove front and rear bumpers.

Here is what it should look like when all is said and done:

When I'm done, the car should weight about 1900lbs and have around 100hp. The cool thing is that I'm going to keep the car Cali street legal!

If anyone has any experience with these cars, chime in! This should be fun, and I'll keep you guys posted.
