Owned a '02 Spyder for 4 months. The cowl shake drove me nuts. There is no obvious fix for this. The sticker on my car was approx 97K, purchased for 79K (new from dealer), sold to a dealer who wholesaled it and gave me 62K. I think the news is mostly out, and I think that '02 cars have probably suffered as much as they can. However, if looking to purchase one used (having test driven it and decided the cowl shake didn't bother) I would be looking to score one, with say, 5K miles at about 55K. I would think depreciation wouldn't be to severe with that as a starting point.

Cambiocorsa can indeed be upgraded; mine was upgraded earlier this year to very nice effect. I don't think you can upgrade the skyhook software, however.

My Maser is a coupe, so I have no spyder experience. However, I have heard from a number of people that the 2002s have pretty significant cowl shake. This was improved (noticeably) for the 2003 models, but I am not sure if it reaches Porsche-like rigidity (a tough comparison).

As far as resale is concerned, I don't have any hard numbers, but the phrase "not so good" comes to mind. However, if you are buying used, you will probably escape the majority of it.

Thinking of getting a used MY2002 Spyder (4000 miles). Does anyone know whether the Cambiocorsa and Skyhook software can be updated? - Automotive Press reviews of MY2003 4200 & Spyder rate the new software versions as being much better.

Also would welcome any comments on the Spyder as a purchase, I am coming from a Boxter S. What are long term residuals likely to be like? ( I worry about these things)
