Oh, just rubbing it in that I'm behind you! Well, there's no more experience advantage as I've shared all my racing secrets. Or have I? ;) |

Pictures and accounts are now up at http://www.strahan.org/FCA/round1.html Sorry about the delay, but my ISP and Worldcom tangled and that knocked me offline for a while. See you at the next race! |

Well I can get the fast lap times, but the head to head slows me down since it is nearly impossible to pass. I was thinking about how we "bump" pretty hard which is fine with me, but what if we were in open wheel grand prix cars? There would be tires and wheels laying all over the place! It is easy to be aggressive when you have a protective rail around the car! My knees are sore from gripping the car or getting T-boned by Rob and pushed in the wall by Mark TWICE! |

Rob, I don't think we want to know about the bed sore on your hip bone. Dons 355 was gorgeous. I agree Rob, it was nice to get out of the 328 club. Now if Wes would just buy his 348tb, Jim S would get his TR, Tillman would get his..... |

I'm not sore today either, except a bed sore on my hip bone. However, I always get that racing karts, autocross, or whatever. Tillman, I guess you got a bad kart that last race. I'll come in next time that happens, if it's really really bad. I can't wait until the next one. I think Don and Frank might come back too. Don use to fly F-16's and A-10's in the AF. He now flys an Air Bus for NW, Frank is still in the AF. We had a nice variety of Ferraris there too, it wasn't the usual Dallas 328 club only. I just love all Ferraris, they're all beautiful. Greg's TR and Don's 355 or just awesome. |

Had a great time. There is a difference in the cars, but also the traffic one encounters makes a difference. I have my best laps when I have something happen that makes me fall behind, like spinning out trying to avoid putting Jim in the wall. (Though if I had known then that Jim went to Hooters at lunch without inviting me I would have slammed him hard.)

It was another great time. Thanks for organizing it Tillman and thanks everyone else for showing up. No excuses, but there's a big variance in performance of the karts. I think Jim S. is the fastest one out there right now with Jim E. and Wes right on his tail. Tillman did really well tonight too. Here's the garage and in the tradition of Jim, I left my mark in the garage, but only Chris and Don were there to witness. I'll video tape it next time and post it.

LOL - Hey, for the partiers, Greg Scott and I will be there by 5:40pm having a few beers. I've been practicing the past day for this event. Let's see... I ran the lawnmower into a tree, going to the bathroom last night I bumped into 2 walls and stepped on the cat, I squeezed Jennie out of the bathroom mirror so I could comb my hair, and I watched a demolition derby on TV. ;) |

Maybe make the distribution a little more even with a tiny bonus for winning and 2 point spread for 2nd thru 7th. 1st--20 2nd--17 3rd--15 4th--13 5th--11 6th--9 7th--7 8th--5 9th--4 10th--3 11th--2 12th--1 What do you think? |

Well, since it really is more of a timed event, I would suggest a staggered start. Points values also looks a bit better with Tillman's revised schema, and should keep the lower-runners still in the game (ie. keeps the "I might as well give up 'cuz there's no way in hell to make a go of this now" factor down). On a side note, I had so much fun that I'm organizing a company-wide event at work. Much like the Tillman before me, I had a tour, lunch and free laps with another departmental head at the center. If all goes well, I will have (a) the corporate office where I work; (b) a local hundred+ local branch and (c) another local hundred+ branch competing. I am looking for at least 10 from each office. At the end of the season, the best 3~5 of each unit will square off against each other in a championship run. I will model the points system like Tillman's revised system. :-) So far, so good. See ya'll soon, Chris. |

Looks pretty good Tillman but I think you need to cook it up so second place gets a few more points. Here's a suggestion, how about one additional bonus point for every 12 ounces? :-) So what do you guys think.... Grand Prix start or staggered start? Would a staggered start spread things out more and reduce the number of collisions that people (not me) have been concerned with? Also, all the scores are based on the individual's best lap time in each heat, not the overall race, right? So passing doesn't seem to be the important thing here.... opening the track up and racing against the clock is how you win this thing. Or am I confused here?

Ok, I modified the points system. As far as I can tell, this should work fine -- it gives points down to 12th, encourages participation in all three events while not requiring participation, and still keeps emphasis on the final race of the night. Basically, I took the F1 points, started it over again at 7th place and added ten to the top 6 points. So, scoring in a main event is as follows: 1st--20 2nd--16 3rd--14 4th--13 5th--12 6th--11 7th--10 8th--6 9th--4 10th--3 11th--2 12th--1 Heat races are scored at half-credit, so they look like this: 1st--10 2nd--8 3rd--7 4th--6.5 5th--6 6th--5.5 7th--5 8th--3 9th--2 10th--1.5 11th--1 12th--.5 The final points standing will use the 6 best scores of the season. If you make all three events, then you can use 3 main events and 3 qualifiers. If you only make 2, you'll have 2 main events and 4 qualifiers. Obviously, those who make all three will have an advantage. Based on this scoring system, here's the results from round 0: 1st heat Rob 10 Bob 8 Jim S 7 Jim E 6.5 Wes 6 Chris 5.5 Linda 5 Alex 3 Tillman 2 Tamara 1.5 Jennie 1 N/A .5 2nd heat Jim S 10 Wes 8 Rob 7 Bob 6.5 Linda 6 Jim E 5.5 Alex 5 Tillman 3 Chris 2 Jennie 1.5 N/A 1 N/A .5 Final Rob 20 Bob 16 Jim E 14 Jim S 13 Wes 12 Chris 11 Tillman 10 Alex 6 Jennie 4 N/A 3 N/A 2 N/A 1 Totals Rob 37 Bob 30.5 Jim S 30 Jim E 26 Wes 26 Chris 18.5 Tillman 15 Alex 14 Linda 11 Jennie 6.5 Tamara 1.5 I'll update the web site shortly. Unless there's a serious objection, we'll use this and tweak it if necessary for next year. |

Great, I have it on my calendar. Want me to send info to FCA DFW members with all dates or just the first? Also, how are we going to score this? Half-Half-Full, then only keep best 6 race scores? Also, you might consider points that go deeper in the places to keep everyone involved. |

Also, we'll try to work out something outside of the points races on a weekend, so that the Houston/Austin/OK/etc. guys can meet up with us |

Yes, those look good, the first date is Indy week, so that's fun. For the next two you might bring R2 to early November so you can move the R3 December date back. I think the 17th is too close to the holidays. I'm available any Tuesday this Fall except that October 1st date. |

So this then? I know everyone can't make them all, and I'm concerned about the Dec date being so close to the holidays, but it's a good rough swing. Round 1 -- Sept 24, 2002 Round 2 -- Nov 12, 2002 Round 3 -- Dec 17, 2002 (Dec 10, maybe?) I can't make any day but Tuesday, due to class schedules (10 hours this sememster -- bleah) |

Tillman, let's go ahead and set the dates with TBC for the rest of the year. I'll send it out to the 80+ local FCA members and hopefully after they see the pics, stories, and realize we have a 3 race series, there might be more motivation to come out. Maybe have 2nd race early November and 3rd mid December. Tuesday work good for me. I won't be able to do Monday or Wednesday's this semester. I start my manual trans class next week. |

I'm in. I agree no Grand Prix starts on first 2 races. Final race should be top placers starting Grand Prix or at least at the front of the pack. |

I hope to make it again. I really enjoyed it, and will probably do it again with a friend in a couple of weekends. (Gran Turismo 3 just does not provide the same kind of excitement.) |

Sounds great. Let me know when the date is final. If that's round 1, we'll maybe have 3 total rounds for the 2002 series? I guess we can count best 2 of 3 towards the 2002 championship. Like I mentioned in the other email, I think we should keep things simple as not to confuse TBC too much. I think random seeding for first two and then last race grand prix by best average place? Sounds like they really don't rank by actual place, so do we really need to do Grand Prix starts except that it's fun. I like your points distribution too with half points for first two races. Maybe we should double points so that we can extend lower points more places. I think virtually everyone that comes out should get some points. Whatcha think? |
