Congrats on the new ride and the good deal! You should be happy with that car for a while, and I'd guess you can run with the 328 all day long and not spill your latte!

Yep....
The Pontiac had 101k miles on it and I had driven it from Dallas to Milwaukee to NC - about 2500 miles - while on vacation after the TX bar exam. I have had problems lately with the Pontiac and it was a maintenace hog. While visiting my parents in NC, the car finally died. The ABS system failed, the alternator went south, and the power steering began to crap out. The cost to fix everything was greater than the trade value of the car itself, so I started to look for a new car.

I happened to drive by the MB dealership where my parents live and I saw a Black E55 in the used lot. It is a 1999 that had only 13k miles and was prestine. The price was more than I could pay so after I test drove the car, I gave them an offer absurdly below Blue Book. They took my offer and gave me a good finance rate, so I decided that it was a deal too good to pass up. I bought the car and drive it back from NC to Dallas last week.

As an attorney, I really needed a practical 4 door car and fixing the Pontiac and buying a 328 made no sense right now. So, the E55 gives me the practicality of 4 doors with 350 hp and nearly 400 ft-lbs of torque. I love the car. Very fast and fun to drive yet with style, luxury and practicality.

I have to delay the 328 purchase for a few years, but I expect the E55 to last for quite a while, so maybe in 3 years or so I will be in a position to get the F-car.

I will put a pic up in my profile. You are welcome to drive it next time we are both at an event.

Ken, you bought an E55 to replace the Pontiac?

How many F-chatters are going? I am thinking about taking my E55 out there for it.

Be careful Rob isn't behind you in the hairpins, he'll try to spin you out of his way.

They'll give you the freedom to go wherever you want on the bank. The bank is the same angle all the way down to the apron. Be careful if you go from the bank to the apron, because it's like a 25 degree change or something. The 328 would scrape or at least give you a big jolt.

I saw an IRL race there 2 years ago and I had never been to a race like that. I could not believe how fast they were going. I was in the pits in the turn and I couldn't turn my head fast enough to follow them! Going about 218 mph I think.

I can't imagine they'll let us up very high on the banks.... we'll see. But you're right, I've been in the infield at TMS several times. When you get over by the banks, it's unreal how high they are...

The banking is so impresive, you can't believe it until you're on it yourself.

I'm only about 10 miles from TMS so I'm going to take my 9 yr old boy.... he'll get a kick out of driving around the TMS track (I'll be behind the wheel of the 328, not him!).

This is from the Pantera board so check it out before you go:

For anyone who has ever wanted to drive on Texas Motor Speedway, this weekend will feature an event just for you. Speedway Childrens Charities is hosting Laps For Charity on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 6:00 pm 10:00 pm. Fans can drive their car behind an official Texas Motor Speedway pace car on the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

The cost is $25 for three laps. Pictures in Victory Circle will be available. Car clubs are welcome and all PASSENGERS MUST BE AT LEAST SIX (6) YEARS OLD to ride. Proceeds benefit Speedway Childrens Charities. For information, contact (817) 215-8564.

1. The pace car will drive in the neighborhood of 75 miles an hour.

2. A vehicle does not have to be street legal, but cannot be dripping fluids.

3. Motorcycles, as long as the rider is wearing a helmet, are accepted.

4. There is no pre-registration. Eveyone will pay & enter at the track (through the south tunnel).

5. You can park with friends/club members and they will TRY to put the groups out at the same time.

6. Digital photos of you and your car (5" X 7") in winners circle will be around $10, I think.
