Hey, All -

I posted about a dozen or so pictures from the event on my web site. It's Geocities, so if there is alot of traffic, it will be temporarily blocked. I suggest hitting the web site randomly.

Here's the link:

Hope you like the pictures!

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the dyno, but I was able to meet up at Sonic afterwards. Here's a pic from before Jerry arrived... Rumor has it the Ferrari's won some trophies at the Mopar club event and went out for a night of celebration. :-)

Just wanted to make sure you saw my thanks-

To the Dallas group that was at Norwood,

I just wanted to take this time to thank all of you for a day I will never forget! Everyone, was very friendly and very willing to answer any questions I had and let me tell you, it helped me out a lot. A special thanks to Mr. Norwood letting us be apart of the dyno day and a huge thank you to Bob and Jim for giving me a ride of a lifetime in your 328s. I can tell you right now, some of my dreams came true that day and I will never be able to thank you enough for being so gracious! Rene, the gentlemen who was with me also sends special thanks to everyone for being so welcoming. I walked away learning about another level of Ferrari. First, about the true essence of what it is like to own one of these magnificent cars old or new, about the passion and appreciation of Italys greatest cars from a renown creator that had a vision of acceptance, winning, and success which he more than achieved. Next, to be affiliated with the owners, who I think were one of the greatest bunch of guys I have ever met. Lastly, to be apart of that magnificent history we call Forza Ferrari.

My deepest thanks,
Marcus

Wow, 457. That's 544 HP at the flywheel! Holy cow. What size engine is it, same as the other?

There's a great article in the current Grass Roots Motorsports about the Factory Five Spec Racer. They're starting one as a project and will document it in their magazine.

Rob, Thanks for organizing the event. It was a really good time. I'll try and get you the exact numbers from our cars, but as I recall:
MM 348 244
MM Cobra 302
DM S/C Cobra 457! (I think his last run may have been 467) Pretty crazy in 2250 #'s.

Look forward to your next event. Mark McKenzie

it can be Bob. a lot of HP is dissipated in the drive train. but being mostly rear engines and a very short drivetrain, the #'s would be on the low end of the projected %'s that you mentioned.

All those numbers are HP at the the wheels.... add 16-20% for the actual engine HP... at the flywheels.

At least I believe that's correct? Right?

I'm going to get all the runs on disk here in a few weeks. In the meantime people can just post their results here. If I remember right...

- Jerry Hawley's 1981 308 GTSi 175 hp?
- Arthur's 308 GTB w/QV engine 192 hp?
- Bob Detrich's 1989 328 GTS 210 hp?
- Jim Ewing's 328 GTS 216.3 hp.
- Rob Lay's 1986 328 GTS 210.8 hp (stock air filter), 228.4 (new K&N air filter).
- Mark McKenzie's 348 250 hp?
- Rob Lay's 1993 BMW 325is (Exhaust and K&N) 169.5 hp.
- Mark McKenzie's Cobra 310 hp?
- Mr. McKenzie's Supercharged Cobra 400 hp?

I know some of those are off, but I'll get the charts and accurate hp and torque figures when I can.

Thanks everyone for coming. It was a great time. We'll do it again in a year or two.

Thanks again to Rob for organizing this, and to everyone else for being great people. I finally got to ride in a Ferrari!

I did some quick-and-dirty audio recording of the Fcar dyno runs. The wav files are posted at http://www.pinball.nu/ferrari/

Sorry I didn't get the Cobras, but I'm not sure the recorder would have held up :-)

There are just two sessions tomorrow.

10:30 to 12:30 and
1:30 to 3:30

I'll be there about 10:00.

The '01 911 Porsche guy had an emergency come up out of town, so won't be there, but we have 3 328's, 1 308, 1 348, and 2 Cobra's. There might be a few stragglers show up tomorrow, James put the word out to some of his customers.

If anyone is interested, there is a muscle car show at the Sonic on Midway just NW of Addison airport starting about 4pm. They're a bunch of fun and would freak out if a couple Ferraris showed up. Last time I went, I got beat in the 80's class by a Grand National, but they put my photo on the front web page. Every loved it, just didn't want to admit it or vote for it.

Mark,

Yes, there's room in the 1:30pm group.

There's enough room for two dozen semis, so we should be ok.

Mark, the parking lot at Norwood shouldn't be problem for a trailer, its in a center with other businesses that should be empty on a Saturday. Unless your trailer belongs on the back of a Semi, you should be fine.

Rob, It looks like I'll be able to bring the other Cobra also. Is there still an "open" spot in the 1:30 group?

I'll know for sure about trailering it up tomorrow. Do you happen to know how much space Norwoods has for trailers?

The weather looks fairly threatening.

Thanks Mark McKenzie

10:30am.

I only had one person sign up for 8:30am, so I'm trying to find him to see if he'll delay until 10:30. There will be two groups... 10:30am and 1:30pm.

I announced to about 5 different clubs, so either their presidents didn't forward the message on or no one was interested. There are currently 5 Ferraris, 1 Cobra, and 1 Porsche. I removed the 3:30-5:30 time spot. So there are 8 spots still available. I'll talk to James at Norwood today and they may have other customers that will come. More the better, I'm even thinking about doing my BMW.

Rob, you should register and post here:
http://www.s2ki.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=10

This is the North Texas S2000 Group and I'm sure they'd like to participate. Might want to indicate how many pulls and other items they'll get for a dyno run since 75 bucks seems a bit more expensive than what they (or I) are used to for a dyno run. Thanks.

Next weekend I'll announce to other car clubs like Porsche, Lotus, and BMW in order to fill out the spots. Once I do that, I think it will fill up pretty quick, I'll also get a stand by list for those that have last minute change of plans. However, each person is responsible for finding thier replacement if they want their money back. Although I will help facilitate it.

I'm taking the money to reserve spots now, but I will be flexible because there shouldn't be any trouble finding someone to take your spots if it ends up not working out. I'm only being rigid for Bob and James because I didn't want 40% of the people not showing up that day and them not getting their money. This way 40% don't have to show up, but at least Bob and James get their money. Having 20 cars go through is one reason it's so cheap.

Yeah, my dad's is supercharged. It's even scarier than mine. I think he's over 400hp at the rear wheels. I'm now thinking of going to TWS Sunday only, so I can come to the dyno day on Saturday the 20th, actually I'd like to bring my 348, my Cobra and my dad's Blown Cobra, but will probably bring only the 348 and the Supercharged Cobra.

Rob, I'll try and decide quickly and reserve two or three spots.

Good question. I think it should if you know the stock flywheel hp. Then you can see how close it is to 75-80% of that at the rear wheels. Bob says that the hp/torque numbers don't tell much, but if you pay the extra $35 for air/fuel analysis too, then you can learn more.

Call James if you want to ask if they can do fwd cars.

Rob,
Can you tell me if there is any advantage to putting a car on the dyno other than to get a good HP v. torque curve? Can you get a good indication of how well the engine is running and if the engine is still strong or in need of major service? The reason that I ask is that I might be interested in putting my Grand Prix on the dyno if it will yeild some good info on engine health. I am not sure if I can do this on April 20th with the Ferraris since my car is front wheel drive and the dyno set-up might be hard to switch around from the RWD Ferraris. But, I have been looking to get a reading of my engines health and if I can do that with the Dyno at Norwoods I would like to go for it.

I still plan on coming out for Dyno day just to chat and watch even if I dont run my car (if that is ok).

Thanks.

$75.

FerrariChat.com isn't making money off this, but I'm taking $75 for each car you want dynoed to reserve your spot. Both Bob and James are coming in for the entire Saturday just to let us dyno our cars.

You can reserve your spot by going to our FerrariChat.com Online Store and paying your $75.

Please let me know if any questions.

Thanks,
rob
