Jim E; not sure what happened. Light went green, I floored it and it just sort of chug-a-lugged to the corner as you sped away. Talk about frustrating....

Ken, an apex is the spot on the turn where Rob T-Bones you and forces you into the wall.

Jim, I'm still curious, what the hell happened to you in the final race last time? You were on the pole and I beat you to the first corner. Were you distracted and sad because your wife left? :-)

For example, let's say you're heading towards a hot chick across the room with two nice cold beers in her hands. It will be quicker to rub against the two pool tables, bar stool, and four Buba's as you weave through the maze vs. giving each minor obstacle two feet of space.

I didn't realize that the final race was based on lap times, I thought it was finishing position. Hmmm....so I can't blame it on Rob.....I must just suck. Need new excuse.

Actually, all three heats are based on quick lap. I asked about using track position to determine the winner, but the facility said they weren't equipped for it.

Here's my observations:

1) Slow-in, fast out only works if the guy behind you feels the same way. Otherwise, it's slow in, crash out - especially in the hairpin

2) The cars are supposed to be equal, but extra ballast==slower lap times. I, for one, intend on having less ballast next time.

3) Cars with flat tires and/or no power bite. Especially in the final

4) It's still fun

The final race results were still based on our best lap times. The advantage is we have a few laps at the front before catching lapped traffic.

In club racing it's a rule that the passing car has the responsibility. The faster cars expect the lapped car to maintain the normal driving line and the passing car has to leave the line to execute the pass. However, "gentleman" drivers will sometimes make it easier for the passing car by leaving the apex open and waving which way for the passing car to go.

Yes, you were blocking fine until I T-boned you out of the way. ;)

I think the responsibility should always be on the faster karts, but at the same time slower karts shouldn't block, just hold their normal line.

Can we say "sarcasm"? Honestly though should we have some type of lapping rule where the slower guys need to move out of the way? Trouble is how do you know if you are being lapped?

Obsiously, in the first 2 rounds where lap time is important it would actually be best to allow the driver to pass as he will speed away and you will get faster times because you aren't protecting your lane.

Honestly, I had
issues with the final race last time. I got the pole position due to earlier lap times, but when it is winner take all based on finish position the only thing you can do is block the guy behind you since the cars won't accelerate out of turns. I don't like just blocking because it is no fun. Any ideas?

With everyone picking the karting up fairly quick and even lapping faster than me at times, I thought a Karting 101 Lesson would be appropriate...

1) Apexes are for wimps! Real karters drive several feet from the apex.

2) The best technique into a tight corner is full throttle and wild, which results in sliding out of control to the outside. Think fast in, slow out.

3) Enter corners on the inside and exit on the inside. All the extra track is just a waste of pavement. Don't use it.

4) The tires squealing a bunch is good. That means you're getting your dollars worth of rubber.

5) 100% throttle and threshold braking is for maniacs. As your lapping the circuit think "parade", in fact, just keep saying that over and over again as you smoothly COAST from corner to corner with maybe light touch on the brakes and gas. In fact, hitting both the brakes and gas an equal 50% at same time is great!

6) Following slower karts is good, that allows you to enjoy your surroundings and you'll be at peace with yourself for faster lap times.

7) Momentum is bad! None of us will never be able to reach the highest skill level of completely stopping and then lightly accelerating out of each turn, but we can always strive for greatness.

Regards,
robbie
