Looks like it was a great event. Sorry I missed it. I have been so busy with work that I have not been getting my needed dosage of the Ferrari drug.

Rob,

I agree with Ric, the track event was lots of fun; even for spectators. I had my 328, but next time I won't be on the sidelines...

Rob,

Congratulations, my friend!

The event was really nice. Ric has said it better than I could, and Will has posted good pictures. Ric charitably left out how he was hounding me in the corners so much I just had to let him by; my 550 was understeering like a pig, despite relatively high front tire pressures. Oh, well, I was still able to crank off 1:23's consistently in the afternoon with 2 people in the car, so I suspect Ric was truly doing 1:20's or 1:21's. Like Ric, I had a passenger for every single run of the day, and I ran in both the Red (race) and the Blue groups, giving rides. I also took another instructor, Mike Rosnofsky (sp.?) along for 2 rides, since I didn't know this 1.8 mile course AT ALL.

Rob, I really wish I had your FC banner for my windshield...

Rob,

Way to go on your first win. Contrats! I went out there & took some pics. Somewhat of a cold, overcast day. I met Ric out there, a nice guy, very knowledgeable of automotive physics & mechanics, did a ride along with Dave in the 550. (sweet!) I met some great folks out there that have a love for the F cars. Anyway it was fun. Here's some pics.

Enjoy

The track event was great. There were probably 15-20 cars there. Jerry brought his 308; I had my 348; Dave had his 550; another Chat guy with a 355 (sorry, I'm blanking out on the name); a handful of 355s; a handful of 360s; several 360 challenge, a couple of 355 challenge and a 348 challenge; a 512TR (Gradys) and another 550. The dealer brought (and tracked) a new Maserati. Several other Ferrari chat guys showed up.

The weather was just about perfect. Maybe a little cold between runs, but I hardly noticed since I ran in nearly every session! :-) In the suit and running the track (with the top out), it was just about perfect temp. Seems like it was in the high 40s in the morning and low-60s in the afternoon.

I had some starter trouble in the morning, but it went away after the first session. (Side note: the starter was recently rebuilt, so I think I might need the relay mod, after all). I drove my 348 for nearly 100 laps. All in all, the car had 270 track miles put on it, so that equates to about 150 laps total. I got off quite a few good laps, with several the felt in the low 1:20s, but didnt time any of my laps (hopefully someone else did).

I stopped counting on my 11th victim that I gave rides to (You know who you are! I hope yall had fun).

The dinner at Cenare (sp?) was fabulous, and the company (30 people?) was great. We got there about 7PM and left at 10:30PM. I think I was the only sober person there in the end. :-)

In the end, I used up the remainder of my brake pads, about 1/3 of my Hoosiers, all of my stamina, and now, I need new track shoes

Dave and Ric, give us a report please.

Sorry again I couldn't make it, but in the process I won my first SCCA race ever, so the 420 mile trip to Corpus had some benefit.

Just to let you guys know I'll be out there taking photos & visiting. I was going to the SCCA event in Corpus but can't make it in time. Besides, it will colder down there. The hell with that, I'd rather enjoy a day with the F cars anyway. Dave, it will be good to see you & meet the rest of the crew on Saturday.

Regards,

Will

Yes that's mine. Not sure about the helmet.

Also, I believe there are quite a few more registered than that...

Dave,

Do you have the 550 with ABLURR or somthing like that? I saw that car at the FCA event in Dallas. If its yours, I have a picture of it on my fridge at home.

Now, where do I get a helmet with one day's notice????

How many cars will be at the event - does anyone know? Last I heard there were 10 registered.

Thanks

Melo

Rob: you wanker :-( I was hoping to display your banner! Oh well... Also, the event will be running the 1.8 mile course; all the FOH events do, unfortunately.

Melo: rides are very cool. You will need a helmet. And if you can get a Nomex suit, you can also go out in the Race (fastest) group. I will be glad to take you around for a spin (figuratively) in my 550. Just look for a silver 550 with a funny personalized license plate...

Sorry I can't make this event. I was really torn and it took me 3 weeks to make my mind between this and a SCCA race in Corpus. I've never raced Corpus before and I'm trying to be in the season long points battle. I hope everyone has a good safe time.

Dave, sorry I didn't get the banners out to you. I'll do it more ahead next time. There's still a slight chance I can hook up with Ric before Saturday or someone from FOD, but looking slim.

Melo Yelo, don't be afraid to ask, we actually love to give others rides. I haven't given too many rides where the person wasn't white afterwards. You might want to ride with someone else first. My 328 on street tires I don't lift and brake until bouncing off the oval in 1, I brake hard for just a second and then powering back full throttle out of 2, I'll kick up a little dirt on the outside of 2, then swing back over, nail the outside rumble strips entering 3, trail brake and then back full throttle carrying out onto the 1.8 turn a little as you go over the bump, full throttle into 4 trail brake in, full throttle out to exit rumble strips, back over for 5 and through without braking, heavy braking for 6 with early apex and kick a little dirt up for the effect on exit, the most fun is here with full throttle without lifting through 7 and then trail braking through 8 as you take 9 full throttle with the sensation you're going to nail that wall, down through the carrousel and it will seem I go so slow through there but that's the fastest way to treat as an autocross, full throttle out all the way around 11 and then set up for the highest exit speed out of the switch backs.

Basically, if anyone is lifting on the oval, turn 5, turn 7, turn 9, or turn 11, then there's plenty more room for you to be scared.

Dang I wish I was going, however, I drive TWS about every month, so Corpus will be a new experience. See everyone next time.

Hey everyone.

I will be at the track in College Station Saturday. I may bring my dad, since he has never really seen any Ferraris. I do not have the Fcar yet. Looking for a 308/328 next year. After I do some home improvements for the wife in January and February. I am a member of the FCA and have been to 4 national events. I have been on Fchat for a while, mostly just read the posts.

Everyone says a ride is possible with those who are willing to do that. I would never ask, I just like looking and watching the cars do their stuff. If a ride would come up, would I need a suit and helmet? I know the national FCA events do not allow rides by someone not registered to drive on the track. What goes on and what are the procedures at an event like this?

Just wondering so I won't look like a dufuss when I arrive.

:-)

Thanks

Anybody that's going, look me up. I'll be in a red/tan 348 ts. I'll be in my blue Ferrari of Houston race suit. See my profile for a pic of me in the car.

I'm looking forward to meeting anyone that I haven't yet met, and even those I have! :-)

I'll probably be giving rides all day long in both blue and white sessions so don't hesitate to ask!

Not at all, very clean. Only problem I saw that I didn't consider a problem was when cutting out the outline with a razor blade, any excess rubber or glue from under the window frame would also be trimmed off. Here's what I do to install...

1) Center it on the windshield where I want it.
2) Apply it and smooth out air bubbles.
3) Cut around window frame to remove overhang.

It comes off with no residue and you can even reuse the banner again if you return to the backing.

You can give it a try if you want. Jeremy and I saw Bob Stretch's Yellow 550 with a yellow Wheels of America banner on the window this weekend.

Rob,

I may be interested. How easy is it to put on & take off? No huge band of left-over adhesive on my windshield? Please advise...

I would probably have more fun doing this, but I've decided to do a SCCA race in Corpus that weekend. If anyone wants a FC window banner for the event, let me know and I'll send you one for free. You just have to get pictures in return.

This is not a FerrariChat.com event, it's a FCA and FOH/FOD event. You must be a member of the FCA to participate because of insurance reasons. I have a SCCA race it Corpus this weekend, but may choose to do this instead. It will be a great time with dozens of Ferraris and a great party Saturday night in College Station.

Here's the official announcement and info from Grady Owens...
