Jim,
Just like this season, we'll use 2/3 of the total possible races to determine the winner. This season it was your best 6 scores out of 9 races. Next season (spring 2003) there will be 18 races within the 6 events, so we will use the best 12. That means people can miss 2 of the 6 events and still have a full scorecard. The spring series runs January through June, the fall series runs July through December.
This will also use the 1/2 score for the heats, just as there was this season.
Rob, this is essentially the same points system we used this last time. All I've done is run through the points system 3 times, adding 20 the first time and 40 the second. The goal is to keep the points close and to make sure everyone gets some points if they make the effort to come out. |

Why not simply have everyone score their top races? At the end of the season, the fastest guy wins. More races means you have more to choose from. |

There's a thousand ways you can do the points. I agree that 36 deep is good. That's probably the max I could ever see attending. Most point systems reward the top drivers more than what your scale does as there's only a 20% difference between 1st and 6th. However, others like Trans Am only have a 1 point difference. Here is SCCA's point system...

What's the goal? I think the goal is to have fun and the closer the competition, the better. Having everyone score points and maybe a close points system like what you proposed will make sure no one runs away with it. |

This is a proposed plan to allow points down further than we'll probably ever have to deal with. I firmly feel that if you participate, you should earn points.
Thoughts and comments are appreciated. First race for the Spring series is Jan 14th, 2003.
