We actually had 5 cars, 5 different colors, until Rob showed up with Red #2 - blue 348, grey 328, white 328, black 308, red 328, and red 348. Unfortunately, it's so dark in there it's hard to get a decent clear shot with good color. You need a monster flash or a time exposure. I had to add a lot of brightness with the PC to even see them clearly. |

Oh and BTW, I had a really good time this week. We have a really good group of people showing up and I've decided not to let the condition of the karts or lack of timing to get to me. Like Tillman said, it will all work out in the long run. Also, for most of the next dates I'll be up for having a bite and drink afterwards. Hopefully most of them don't run as late as this one. Make good contacts too, my Spec. RX7 is up at Jano's right now. |

Well, here's the deal: They lowered the price that evening to $30/person for the that event and the next two. The had previously told me that we had to pay as a group, but then they started taking individual sales. That's all great. Lower prices and no money hassles is a good thing and I'm highly in favor of good things. But, I didn't want to then go around and hit everyone up like one of the hobos you see under I35... "Hey mister, got any fives?" Definitely uncool, IMHO. That's why I didn't say anything. Some people helped out, and I appreciate them. With 12 events and 2 sets of champion trophies, the cost for the trophies will be right around $800 for this season. We're averaging right around 13 people, so $5 per person per event will garner almost exactly that amount. That's the story. And no, I'm not ticked off at anyone, except maybe Rob

They only charged me $30, so I figgered we just got a better deal. I asked Tillman about it later, but he was sufficiently vague about the extra costs that I wasn't sure if I owed him or not. If I owe T-man $5 or $10, someone please let me know. Tillman, don't be shy about telling us what we owe, nobody wants you getting stuck with a trophy bill again this year. Rob, I enjoyed your takeoff at the light. I waited too long to gas it, so I had even less of a chance of keeping up! I had a fun ride home, didn't see any revenuers on the way. BTW, my cool wife just got me a Valentine detector for my b-day, should be here today. Can't wait to start trickin' those guys! |

The writeup and points are now posted at http://www.strahan.org/FCA/2003/sround1.html Chris Fisher, Geronimo Reazda, Bill McDaniel and Dan Malett, I have your membership cards for TBC. Catch me next time. If you have these on you, there's no waiver requirement. Jim, I know what you're saying about the karts. It's all random luck on that, but over a season it should even out. Remember, we're only using the best 2/3 of the scores. Thanks again everyone for coming out. Tell others if you think they'll be interested. See you in February... |

The honorable Mr. G. Scott was entertaining a working acquaintance late into the night and I received some fringe benefits towards the tail end of that entertaining. That was the main reason I had to bust out of there after our lapping sessions, hopefully my explanation hasn't danced around the question too much. |

I know this will tick Tillman off for me saying this, but it needs to be said. Everyone, reminder, if you just paid TBC the $35, you need to make sure you give $5 to Tillman as well. The total cost to participants is $40. That helps cover the trophy costs. Tillman was out of pocket hundreds of dollars last year, that won't happen again. Anything left over will either go into a FCA DFW treasury or we'll get some prizes with it. If you missed the ante last night, just make sure to give Tillman $10 next time. If anyone is budget conscious like I should be right now, I suggest just paying for one race and doing the double point final one. You would be in the second group, but it's just your time that counts anyway. I think the total doing it that way would be $15+5 = $20 at most. Thanks, rob |

Oh, believe me I know about the $$$ of the 308 vs. the is300. And granted, its no M3. Great car, but it does tend to get tail-happy when you push it. Although it did take the big sweeping offramp from I35 to 45 by downtown at about 75mph. Not many other cars (with the exception of the F cars of course) that I know can do that. By the way Rob. How many lights do you have on the fron of your car? Looked like at least 6. It was like night had turned into day as you passed by. You might almost outpower the xenons on my car |

Yes, I found that out about 4 hours later! I didn't know where I was going. I wanted to head up 75 N., but went the long way over to 183 first. I think I saw Ron again when I finally got back on track close to downtown. IS300's are great cars, I did that little Lexus experience thing where you can autocross and ride with professional racers comparing a IS300, 328, and Audi. Everyone knows I'm also BMW fan, but Toyota/Lexus is up there with me too. My second car was a Toyota Tercel and my wife drives a Tundra now. Great car, but you know you can get a 308 for the same price! ;0 |

Yes Rob, that was me in the IS300. You were behind me at the light so I didnt really get on it until you passed by. I didnt want to spin the tires over all that rough pavement because I get some serious tail sliding when the tires get loose. Didnt want to side swipe the 328 Too bad you didnt get on I35. I followed Ron in the 308 until he hit about 85, then I backed off. Didn't want to get pulled over as there was not enough other traffic out at 10:45 to hide in incase the radar detector went off. |

Was that Chris Fisher in the IS300? That was fun at the stop light, I'm sure you'll say you weren't racing, but who said Ferraris can't launch well? I spun them through 2nd and got that little muscle car side step going. What did it look like from behind Ron and Tillman? Hope I didn't spit up any dirt. |

Yep, I was and got caught! Check my post on GFD. The only part I'll add on just the Texas topic is that it was a total scam and money making deal. I got a ticket from a DFW airport cop 2 miles north of the airport! That little sretch between 635 and 114 on 121. 55 MPH is just plain crazy, those are wide open roads with up to 4 lanes of traffic. At 2am there was no one except that airport cop. I took the big sweeper from 635 to 121 at 85 mph! Dang, first Ferrari ticket. |

Did anyone else notice that in the 2 final races, the same 2 carts came in 1 and 2? I'm starting to understand how Rob felt the night he left so fast! The ride home sucked too. Coming up 35 just before the exit to 190, I saw Wes. Hmmm...this might be fun, I love to take that exit at about 80mph, lets see if Wes will follow. I sneak in behind him, downshift to 4th, wait for the semi beside us to go straight and open a left lane for me. Just as I'm about to move left and scream around him, I notice some funny reflective tape on the car in front of him. Damn, a cop. Hello 65mph. 2 miles later, I can't see the cop anymore so think I'll open it up, just as soon as this car in the left lane gets around me. He passes and there's ANOTHER cop behind HIM. Then a Trooper parked on the side of the road! There was NO going fast anywhere last night. |

Just a quick write-up, the longer one will be on the website later today or tomorrow. A good turnout, with 14 participants and 6 Ferraris. Several new guys (welcome!) showed up. The final was decided by only 1/100 of a second! Rob Lay won it with a 35.73 on the long track, followed by Jayson Burkel with a 35.74. The two of them were swapping the lead almost every lap. Rob Mashigian took third with a 36.57. Here's the points standings as of now: Heat 1 Heat 2 Final Total Rob Lay 27.5 25.5 60 113 Jayson Burkel 30 22 57 109 Ron Rippe 28.5 28.5 51 108 Rob Mashigian 18.5 26.5 55 100 Wes Deloach 24.5 24.5 49 98 Chris Fisher 26.5 30 41 97.5 Tillman Strahan 20 23.5 53 96.5 Geronimo R 23.5 27.5 43 94 Bill McDaniel 21 24.5 47 92.5 Jim Ewing 23.5 20.5 45 89 Jano Minassian 25.5 22.5 40 88 Ron Quigley 21.5 20 42 83.5 Dan Marlett 20.5 18.5 44 83 Nareg Basmadjian 22 21 37 80 Next event is February 11, feel free to join in! |

Bob? Bob who? I seem to faintly remember some guy named Bob from a long, long time ago. I should be back on the road tonight, not sure what the hell my battery issue was. James says the battery is fine but was seriously discharged. Maybe I left a light on coming home new years eve. I guess the car gets to go visit its mechanic friends next week for an oil change and an off-key drain test. |

Don't make battery jokes, my car wouldn't start this morning. It seems to be a battery problem. I may have left something on when I last drove it, I wasn't exactly completely on the ball. Now comes the part where I get afraid to drive it because what if it won't start when I'm out and about? Might be time for a new Optima. |

It's a new year and a new season for the Karting Challenge. Who will challenge Rob for the Grand Champion trophy? Will ChicksDigIt Racing continue to dominate, or will the "smaller is faster" crowd prove to be right? Come one, come all. Round 1 is January 14th, at TBC Indoor Racing (I35E and Regal Row). Tire kicking and beverages start around 7:00 PM, racing begins at 7:30. Full details, including the revised point structure, are at http://www.strahan.org/FCA/ $40/person to cover the track costs and the trophies. Everyone is welcome, Ferrari cars get preferred parking Who's in? Jayson and I will be there. |
