Oh yeah? Well OUR carts are more powerful than even a weedeater! Six blazing HP!!! None of that fancy body work like you guys have though, I hear the sparkie-karts have amazing torque from the get-go. Max speed on the Belgian-built gassers we use is about 37 kph. .ps That gated shifter .gif rocks! |

Amen to that! Think how good we would all be if we had REAL karts. |

yea, but can you drive a $7,000 electric cart with no brakes, only turns one direction, transponder doesn't work, one flat tire, battery cables comes loose in middle of race, steering wheel comes off in your hand, and body work rubbing on tires? Now that takes skill! |

Just so everyone understands, here's what that listing means. I'll use Jim as an example... In the first round, Jim scored 89 points. That was good for 10th place overall at that time. His line was then Jim E. 89 89 -- Which translates to Name: Jim E Round 1 Score 89 Total Score (best 12) 89 Position change -- The reason the position change is -- is that we did not have any positions in the points race before this first round. In the second race, Jim scored 84.5 points. That brought his total up to 173.5. Because of the way everyone else performed, Jim did not move up nor down in the standings. Thus he was still 10th. This is the line from that race Jim E. 89 84.5 173.5 -- This translates to: Name: Jim E Round 1 Score: 89 Round 2 Score: 84.5 Total Score (best 12): 173.5 Position Change: -- (No change) Now let's look at the last race. Jim was unavailable, so he didn't race. He did not score any points in that event. Other people who were in the points chase did race, and thus added points to their total. This resulted in Jim dropping 2 places (the -3 was a mistake on my part) even though his points total was still the same. Let's look at the line for that race: Jim E 89 84.5 0 173.5 -2 This translates to: Name: Jim E Round 1: 89 Round 2: 84.5 Round 3: 0 Points total (best 12): 173.5 (Still the same as before) Position change: -2 (dropped 2 spots due to others scoring points and passing him in the season points total) The important thing to remember is that only the top 12 out of 18 races count. That means that the points will shuffle as people miss races, drop low counts, etc. Just to make sure we're clear, look at my line: Tillman S 96.5 87 85 268.5 -1 This shows that I competed in all three events thus far, and have a total of 268.5 points, but that I still managed to lose a position in the season points standing on Tuesday. Questions?

Jim, You didn't lose points, you lost spots. That's the -3 on the list. Remember, the points total is based on the 12 best races (out of 18), so things will start shuffling starting next month. Essentially, you can miss 2 months and still have a full scorecard. I have an excel worksheet if you're interested |

Some day I'm going to have to get a full explanation of this points thing. I lose points when I don't show up! Damn. Sorry to hear none of you were able to kick Rob's ass yet. I'm afraid our series is a battle for second and third place. Maybe we should just give Rob the big trophy and have a 2nd-4th competition? I'll be there next month for sure. |

They told me way back that they spent $4million building that place out. Sounds a bit high to me, but that is what he said. Carts cost $8k each. Gotta run alot of races to pay for $4million |

I have to say it is a CHALLENGE to find a kart that handles well and goes FAST at the same time. Rob appears to have it down to a fine art as to which karts are the fastest to go with his good driving skills. (I will give him some credit; he was EXTREMLY lucky to get the same hot rod in the 2nd qualifier and in the final.) There was a lot of good racing with bad karts last night. There was even a little three wide racing that was pretty exciting too. Tillman made me work way too hard to get out in front and I had Chris F. giving me the chrome horn to go faster. (What's a guy to do? Apply a gentle, but generous, amount of pressure to move the impeding object out of the way. YEA, that's what I did. Sorry Tillman, but it had to be done.) After a couple of those corners, I decided I had had enough. I finally found my spot to move around Tillman and left them to fight it out behind me. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody at the next event. Sorry to hear that you had to leave early last night John, but I bet your patient appreciated it this morning. <grin>

Thanks for showing up Damon, it was nice to meet you in person. Those karts are really frustrating. Turn one way, but not another, braking shady, some have poor motors, some loose charge in the middle of race, and then everything can be perfect and your transponder doesn't work, so you don't get any times. Last year I even stormed out of there once I was so frustrated. I wrote them about a two page letter and never heard back. I think all signs are they're just trying to remain afloat. No way they can be making a profit. Just look at the details they put into that building, much of been extremely expensive. We were the only big group there last night. There may have been 10 other people, so 10 + 12 = 22 * 30 = $660. I imagine they are just waiting for the investment money to go dry and the investors are probably in the dark, so they have no idea it's going under. |

Round 3 of the Karting Challenge went much smoother than the past event. The only real (unexpected) issue was the fact that the bar was closed! In true Texas fashion, that problem was solved with a pizza and a case of beer First, welcome Damon and Greg to the series! The racing was fun, although the karts still are not equal. Bill won the first qualifier on the short track with a 20.66, followed by Rob L with a 20.79 and Jayson with a 20.82. The full finishing order was: Bill Rob L Jayson John Dan Rob M Jano James Damon Greg Chris and, of course... Tillman The second qualifier was held on the longer track. Rob L won that one with a 35.45 (fastest lap of the day at that time). Dan was second with a 36.22, and Jayson picked up third with a 36.56. The full order was: Rob L Dan Jayson Jano Greg Chris DAmon John James Bill Rob M and, of course... Tillman The final was held on the long track again. On the start of the A final, Jayson managed to get a jump on polesitter Rob L and lead through the first series of turns and through the hairpin. Unfortunately, it didn't take all that long for Rob to squeeze on by, and after that it was a cakewalk for Rob L. Rob L continues to dominate with a perfect 3-0 season in the finals thus far. His 35.53 was a bit slower than his Q2 time, but fast enough to win. Dan just managed to edge Rob M for second with a 35.81, with Rob M just .02 behind at 35.83. The complete racing order was: Rob L Dan Rob M Jano John Greg Jayson Damon Tillman James Bill Chris F. Afterwards some of us moved on to Humperdinks -- someone else has the pictures from there The next round is April 8. Everyone is welcome, come on by. The Karting Challenge continues March 11 at 7:00 pm at TBC Come one, come all, and let's break some karts, consume beverages and talk Ferrari (and Torino). I just spoke with TBC and they said they spent 40K on repairs to the karts. Hopefully some of that went to the transponders.... This time, if there's problems with the timing we'll just live with it. Trying to fix it last time just made everyone upset. More info available at http://www.strahan.org/FCA I haven't finished the last round's page yet, but it will be up this week. Who's in?
