my wife got pulled over and we had been out and she was for sure over the limit. again not a good idea, but it happened. She got the field tests and her ballet lessons kicked in and she walked that line like a pro. One officer told another...she isn't drunk...so they let her go. Meanwhile I am sitting in cuffs on the curb because i told her not to take the breathalyzer test. Cop told me to shut up and I told her again...don't do it...He says that's it your going to jail...cuffed and stuffed for public intox. Yet they never tested me for anything I just pissed him off.

Needless to say the case was dismissed by some fancy legwork courtesy of my endless source of lawyer friends.

Jimpo, don't they make peanut butter Altoids?

What a great idea!

Officer, "Sir, have you been drinking this evening?".

Driver, "No Officer, just getting down on some peanut butter".

If you have been drinking, even just a sip, never say you have, once you say you've had a sip or 1 or 2, whatever, they have reasonable suspicion to bring you in and test you. At best you'll be there several hours before they let you go and it's embarrassing.

If you have 6 beers and you claim not to have a single drink, even if the officer can smell it and your out of car tests aren't perfect, it's nearly impossible for them to take you in. Too much hastle for them, remember, it wastes several hours of their time, chances are there will be someone else coming along 5 minutes later that will be an easier bust for them. Remember, the main thing that will hold up in court is the video of you doing tests at the police station, but by the time you do that it will be 60 minutes later and the entire experience will have sobered you up pretty quick.

Don't drive while drunk, but don't be stupid and get taken in those times you enjoy a few beers with the Ferrari club or a bottle of wine with the wife.

My wifes grandfather used to carry peanut butter in his car, and when he got pulled over while he'd been drinking (which I guess was relatively frequently), he'd scoop a big wad into his mouth. Hard to smell booze over peanut butter.

well the ticket won't show up for awhile since you just got it and it hasn't settled. THey will ad teh H2 now and then probably not check your record for some time as the update is "recent". Also, not sure if corp or the agent controls when and how often the update records. Pull what strings you have!

They always seem to catch mine, and my best friend is my State Farm agent. I just bought a H2 this weekend, so I am sure they are going to check it. I guess I will just go down to G-vine Courthouse , grab my red stratocaster, and sing " I Can't Drive 55."

also, I don't think tickets get "reported" to your insurance. Insurance companies periodically check or update their records for rate adjustments or if you add a new car etc. So in theory if they don't check your record the ticket may be done by then anyway. Not a sure fire bet, but even if all options fail you may still sneak by them.

nope, that's the beauty of it, the city gets your money, but your insurance never knows about it unless you get another ticket in the same city within the probation period.

...as far as I know.

Dear Rob,
If you defer it,does it get reported to your insurance company?

John, you should be able to defer it. To me that was the best choice as I didn't want to take the time of defensive driving. I think a lawyer would take even more time. I just paid the ticket and defered it. Grapevines probation is pretty short. Just do what I did and balance all your tickets around Grapevine, Southlake, Irving, and Keller (well, not yet, but that's my next one. )

Okay, I had been reading this thread and laughing at all you guys speeding on 114 .Then BAM, coming home Friday night 10:00 pm, traveling in a group of 10 cars westbound from 635/121 where it ties into 114. A mustang tried to keep me from moving over to the left hand lanes to go southbound, so I punched it a little, and I see the world behind me light up.
He gave me a ticket for 75 in a 65. What an askwhole! He was in my face trying to see if I had been drinking. It would have been his dream come true to give a doctor on a ferrari a DWI.
So my question is- have you guys used attorneys to go on probation? I did defensivedriving.com last year, so I do not think I am eligible yet.The only thing I do not like is having to be on probation for 90 days. Any recommendations on lawyers?

Rob: My detector is a K40, however, if someone is about to shell out some money for a detector, I tell them to get a V1.

Well, the V1 is a 100% cash outlay, the Challenge would be a leveraged "business" transaction. I knew I would get for the challenge car. However, everyone can rest assured I'm still a pooo ass boy from Kansas (born in Texas!).

Rob, please forgive my carssness here, but.....you are actively shopping for a 355 Challenge car with history, and you are balking at buying a V1 for $399?????

Perhaps you can find a pre-owned one on EBay?

Mitch, what kind of detector? I looked at the V1's, but $400! and I don't know how much better they'll be than my K40. My K40 goes off, but it's usually too late.

Must be the weather.......

Last weekend, I was straifing apexs on 1431 heading towards Austin. A couple of miles from Marble Falls, a car flashed its lights at me, then a motorcyclist gave me a slow down sign. About 3 miles farther down, there was a 3500-sized pickup truck with state trouper insignia. I got flashed by instant on radar 7 times (I was traveling 55 MPH in a 65). Whaaaa, silence, whaaaa, silence, whaaaaa, silence...7 Times, he just couldn't believe I was at/under the speed limit, in beautiful weather in my F355!

As I passed, I waved at him, only to get a sneer in return--hahahahahahah!

What he meant to say was "I picked out the car that looked like it was going the fastest."

yep, that's how it went, after the fact I thought I should of said "Now does a red Ferrari appear it's going faster in a pack of cars?" Or better yet... "what's the wing velocity of an African swallow?".

well we were in the left lane and I "think" we were pulling away from the pack, but by no means were we hauling butt.

Here is teh conversation.

Officer: I have stopped you for speeding Mr. Lay.
Rob: what was my speed?
Officer: 77 in a 60 Mr. Lay.
Rob: wasn't I going with the flow of traffic in a pack of cars?
Officer: I picked out the fastest moving car sir.
Rob: For future advice, does it matter if I am in the left lane....???
Officer: No sir, I pick out the fastest car.
Rob: hmmm.
Officer: this is not an admission of guilt, you are simply acknowledging you received a citation....now try to have yourself a NICER day and be careful when pulling back on to the road.

They don't call it "ticket-me red" for nothing.

I'm sure you've heard it before, but I highly recommend Valentine One... it has saved me 5 tickets in the last month alone!

And if it makes you feel any better, there was the time I was cruising along in my silver 280ZX... brrap brrap... I slow down... I crest the hill doing exactly the speed limit... a silver sedan of some sort flies by me... I feel bad for him, but I'm kissing my Valentine as I see the cop turning around in the median.

I exit... its time to exit... as I am about to turn towards work, that cop is on my butt with lights on. I'm floored! He tells me what he clocked me at... I argue, no that was the XXX sedan that was passing me... he then gives me the third degree on why I had exited. Ultimately, he did only give me a warning, but... its definitely frustrating to be targeted by the cops... even if it is the case that I had been driving a bit faster just before that hill!! ;^)

Rob,

You need to talk to Jon Ward's attorney. Jon told me he has not taken drivers ed... and not paid for a ticket in several years.

Don't feel too bad. Just today, I went down to traffic court to sign the affadavit that says I have been a good little boy for 6 months, in order to wash away a deferred speeding ticket...

It's really all my fault, I shouldn't speed, but it's a Ferrari! It's so hard. I'll be really good for awhile. I try to go a year without a ticket and then I start getting more aggresive, looks like my year just started. I'll get it all out on the race track.

I have but three non-mutuially-exclusive suggestions, Rob:

(1) get a more subtly painted Ferrari;
(2) drive more slowly on that road;
(3) get a (better) radar detector

Bob,

It's all about deferred adjudication. I had 5 in 6 weeks about 2 years ago, nothing hit the insurance. Cost a pretty penny, though :-( You can only do that up to 24 over.

Bummer Rob, I'd recommend you travel a bit slower on 114.

Three tickets in 2 mos.... I thought three tickets in a year and you lost your license??? How's this affect your insurance?

Previous owner installed an old K40, it's only saved me about 3 times in 2 years, I wish it had saved me 6 times though.

Sorry to hear that. What kind of radar detector do you have? I want to avoid that brand :-)

You're probably on the right track with the red Ferrari == ticket magnet. If you were the cop and could pick one of the 5 cars, wouldn't you get the cool exotic to pick up some bragging points in the squad room?

I'm glad my car is a bit lower profile than yours. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <-- bragging line removed to keep from being slapped on the head by karma :-)

Now I'm really getting sick of this. I never use to get tickets. Although my commute to Las Colinas is the same as it was from Addison, that 114 is a speed trap through all of Irvine, Grapevine, and Southlake. Luckily, my tickets have been in each of those. Only the Southlake one will hit my insurance as it was 34 over. That was the cheapest ticket too. 40 MPH construction speed zones on wide open double lane roads with no construction is ridiculous. Luckily, I always see people pulled over, so we're paying for the schools my kids will be going to. Dallas cops never give speeding tickets as they have too many murders. Why can't Southlake have more murders? ;) Anyway, what's the deal? I drive my BMW the same way I drive the Ferrari and I drive it 90% of the time. My BMW doesn't have a radar detector, but my Ferrari does. No tickets in the BMW, but 3 in the Ferrari over 2 months! Jim Schad was with me yesterday when I got one in Irving. I'm not saying I wasn't going 77 in a 60, but there were 5 cars with me in the flow of traffic. Which car are you going to pick out? The red Ferrari! In the BMW I use to go a little faster than the flow of traffic and not get tickets, in the Ferrari I think you have to go below the flow of traffic because you will always get picked out of the crowd. Part of the joys of Ferrari ownership, there's nothing we can really do about it.
