Paul,
Thanks for the tip about having Norwoods do what you are getting done, but I already passed inspection (BARELY)--see my previous post (4 down ffrom this one)

I will have the same thing done next year and then I will not have to worry again for the life of the car.

James at Norwood Performance is putting an electric airpump and huge cat on my turbo qv.
I think this will be the cheapest way for you George.

$1000 or so for parts & labor and your legal.

happy motoring

As Al said:

We run our cars over to Gene Johnsons down the road (4 blocks) from our shop for inspections when folks have their F-cars in for routine service or repairs. We pre-inpect them and ready them before hand (hand brake adjust, headlamp bulbs, wiper blades, tires, etc) before we run them over. They have done a good job for us to date, and we've many if not all our cars inspected there.

Charles and Al: about 6 weeks ago my wife did me a (ahem) big favor by tryiing to remove and update the registration sticker on my car (the day before a road trip to a race track). In her (ahem) haste, she razored off the inspection sticker (grrrrr) instead. The Jiffy Lube at 290/71 was happy to inspect the car (F355). Drove in, told story, they looked at car, ask where the power steering fluid was, drove the car 1/2 block and put a sticker on it.

The 308 passed inspection!!! The limit for hydrocarbons is 148....mine came in at 148! This without cats (test pipes) or air pump! I DID run some "RXP" in the gas before going in for inspection.... Appartently the car can be "massaged" (spelled "working at it for almost 2 hours") through the tests JUST RIGHT to give a decent reading. Karl at Heinley's Car Care in Richardson is 'DA MAN! Cost: $39.50 flat.

The best I can recommend is getting a PO box in a non-emissions county and register the car to that address. Then the inspection in that county won't be an issue.

I don't think George is looking for a PPI, I think he's looking for a Tx State Inspection place that might pass his car w/out the cats installed.

Does anyone have any good sources for getting my 308 it's yearly inspection? It is an '81 (still about 2 years to go before it is exempt from the tailpipe test), I bought it with "gutted" catalytics (now has test pipes), the airpump has been removed (it seized up on me, burned its belt, and COULD HAVE caused a timing chain skip-it is in the trash).

I really do not see the sense in sinking gobs of $$$ to bring it back in spec if it is going to be exempt in another year and a half.

Ideas? Ferrari "friendly" shops?
