The Motorsport Ranch www.motorsportranch.com is unique in the country. It caters primarily to members, although car club events are available about once a month or so. Rob Lay and I are both members and the cost is less than doing club events, if you want to drive with some frequency - that is up to you. I track drive and race with some frequency, and the ability to practice and test at MSR has made a huge difference for me. I used to be a mid-pack racer and my practice lets me regularly vie for podium finishes.

The track is also very safe, as there is virtually notihng to hit and the runoff areas are very smooth, so a mistake is unlikey to do anything more than get some dirt and grass on your car.

The other suggestions on this thread are good, as well, but you owe it to yourself to go to MSR - Jack Farr the owner will show you some hospitality and you will love the facility.

Marc & Ken, my neighbor/friend down the street works with the V22 Osprey (tiltrotor) program in Grand Prarie. He's been to Europe a couple of times in the last 6 weeks. I also know the guy who flies and maintains the helicopter for EDS... you always see that one flying above the tollroad in Plano. And I have an old high school buddy who works for Vought in Denver... cool biz.

Hey Marc!

I did a project in Arlington for Chase Bank, I think close to where you are. They had those goofy experimental craft flyin' around all the time.

We have a charity racing kart team here in Houston, that has raised over $65,000.00US for abused children.

We are proud of that and would love to have you and any interested FChat members involved.

Congrats on your new car, I too had to work for years to realize the dream!

I hear you cann drive real fast on public roads in Atlanta! (See Youshi thread!)

Marc,
I am a helicopter nut too. I used to work for Cessna in Kansas as an engineer on the Citation series of jets. Got to do a lot of flight test work which was a blast. I am now an attorney and miss the aero biz often. We should get together sometime and talk shop.

First of all, welcome to FerrariChat.com. I will add you to our local Ferrari list. Our local FCA chapter does about 20 events a year around DFW. Please see our chapter website at www.fcadfw.com.

For tracks we only have Texas Motor Speedway and Motorsport Ranch CC around DFW.

Motorsport Ranch CC does sell memberships, which isn't a bad deal if you can go a few times a month. Their website is http://www.motorsportranch.com. TMS doesn't have any type of memberships.

The alternatives are the car clubs that run at both MSR and TMS. They are...

http://www.thedriversedge.net/ (MSR & TMS events)

http://www.sportbikehype.com/ (TMS infield road course only)

Maverick Region of Porsche Club (MSR and full TMS course w/oval)

I would also consider going down to Texas World Speedway in College Station http://www.texasworldspeedway.com/. There are numerous clubs that run on that track. Ferrari of Houston is running a track event the weekend of Dec. 7th.

Also Hallett up in Oklahoma at http://www.hallettracing.com/. I was just there last weekend.

I'm up at Indy until Monday, but I'll try to provide more information. I've run all the tracks in the area and with most of the various clubs.

Rob,
Thanks
I am interested to know about tracks I can go to on the week-end in Texas and if possible not too far from DFW
