Well Tiger
From looking at your profile I would have to make the bold assumption that you would be our Target Market.

I have had a number of coments about Insurance and the lack of coverage in Mexico. Anyone else know more about this? the Federalis really seem to want to try and acomodate the bunch but that could really throw an onion in the oitment

Your magazine sounds very interesting! I enjoy Dupont Registry & Hobb Report type of magazines. Local magazine to handle these subjects will be very useful, too. If you can include few pages on boy's gadgets like high tech items, fashion-related items like watches, leather goods, cloths, shoes, etc. (especially new products, and where can they be bought) along w/ already suggested subjects by some members, your magazine shall be perfect for me!
I hope your magazine will take off to a good start !

Dennis has been a great help to us getting this thing off the ground. I was thrilled when he offered to host the party and even more so when I saw who showed up. If you see the pix I had to turn away many other cars and the Valet parking was a dream car field

Jim, Dennis Boulle is a good guy, and a car enthusiast of the first order. When we lived in Dallas, we were good customers ;-)

Given the chance I would love to do more avaiation work but the way my stuff works is I only get to do it when someone asks me to.

the P51 is part of the "JaniKing" collection at the Cavanaugh Air thing at Addison AirPort. I was shooting it and the owner's 2 Mustang Mach 1's for an upcoming profile when a friend took that shot of me.

I also have a shot around here of me just before sliding off of an AutoCross circuit while behind the wheel of a Viper RT10. Was trying unsuccessfully to do a power slide around a corner and ended up doing doughnuts... Bad Jim....
I really wanted to try the same circuit in the Nissan 350z TRAX I was driving. Very sure it was built more for the tight twists than 500hp 500 ftlb brute was.

Do you also do aviation photography? I noticed the P51 you are standing on. I am thinking about becomng more involved in auto and aviation photography as a hobby. Aviation and cars are my to big passions.

Jim,

Carroll's a nice guy. He was supposed to come down to Florida for my fathers space shuttle launch back in May '00, but due to his health problems was unable to make it.

Be sure to compliment him on his Chile for me. :-)

Two thoughts:

1) Lambo of Dallas has cleaned up their showroom since I was there last :-)

2) Driving into Mexico with an exotic is a Bad Idea. I know my insurance won't cover me down there. Maybe a charter bus run?

OK I need some feedback on this.

After the GoodGuys Hotrod Show on the weekend We met with some of the promoters for the Mexican World Rally Race that is coming up outside Mexico City in March.

We are looking at a couple of ideas dealing with the promotion of the event on this side of the border.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try and come up with a killer Road Trip for a bunch of Automotive Entheusiasts like the ones here to attend the event.

Kind of a road trip / destination / event with the Mexican side offering to provide security for a vehicle park area for the folks coming down and transportation out to the event.

Just in the idea stage now but FeedBack would be great.

Well we are looking at all the options but I know we don't have the kind of deep pockets go go head to head with Car and Driver or anything like that. As a regional TEXAS magazine we want to deal with more spacificly TEXAS and the people involved here. We have one area for "up and coming" and another that i like to call NIMBY for Not in my Back yard. looking at cars that are available in other markets say like Holden UTE in Ausiland Looks and smells like an elcamino but you wouldn't tell them that.
Collector's Racers and yes Tech and we have some other ideas. I think we are mostly aiming to the LifeStyle but we know Tech is important to some. I know from working in the Auto Serivce world that many of our potential readers don't even know how to change their own tires. I have to balance that with the guys who do and would stop and help the guy who can't.

" I am still up in the air on if we stay away from NUTS and BOLTS or just stick to lifestyle."

The way I see it, is if you stick to one then you are bound to snuff out some potential readers. If you were to have a section dedicated the technical guru, or a person who just enjoys reading about how to restore a classic car, then you could to people like myself. I also like the idea of appealing to new and old, as much as I enjoy reading about a vintage touring event. I would also like to know whats around the corner in the auto world. Will show coverage also be part of the magazines agenda?

For our "Prototype" issue just drop a note to [email protected] and mention you saw it on FC. Will send out issue and include 3 month free subscription to anyone from the FC site.
I like the idea of the Car Guy Guide to Texas and we have that in our plan.
George can I assume one of the reasons for the "Ex" title comes from the lack of apreation for how resorseful you are at finding things interesting to YOU.
Sorry just dealing with a little of that my self right now.

I have an old special edition magazine put out by Autoweek back in '98 that listed ALL the automotive related mueseums, sites, hangouts, events, stores, etc. for any given major city area in the United States. It is still pretty up to date. Whenever I was planning on being in a different area of the US, I would look up all the nearby car stuff to go do or see. My ex-wife hated it because I could always find something car realted to visit. Something updated along these lines would be cool.

If you are looking to build a subscriber base, you may want to look into offering more in the way of online resources. True, if you are building a new publication, repetetive content can provide meat between the covers but realistically, directories, longer-term calendars, and lots of other useful material is better presented online. Additionally, online communication resources drive loyalty and a sense of ownership and pride.

This is what I do for a living. If you are interested in some real consultation on online presence, drop me a line. I will be glad to provide you my CV and some free, honest opinions.

>>Find me some nice curvy roads around here, I'll be happy! Maybe a 'Best local roads' section every month?<<

No, no, no... A thousand times no. Twisties are a very scare resource. Every time somebody publishes a list, those roads get ruined. Remember, loose lips bring bicyclists and harleys.

You are on the right track.

I am from the East Coast of Canada and I miss roads that look like some one had a seizure with an etch-a-sketch

Thanks for the input.
We are trying to put together a Calander of events that will run in every issue. As you all know there does not seem to be a one stop shop for information for the auto geek. There are many specialty areas that do a fantastic job like Ferrari chat but we are trying to build a bridge that everyone from the rice rocket to the guy who collects cars with wooden spoked wheels and brass.
Beyond that I am still up in the air on if we stay away from NUTS and BOLTS or just stick to lifestyle.
TDM needs to have a broad enough appeal so we can reach the right people so our Advertisors (who pay the bills) are happy and don't try and club people to death with the minutia of Flange bolts made of unobtanium. We need to balance this with a general desire to be accepted in circles like your own and others like the Viper club or even the TexasRovers Land Rover club. Upload

Hi Folks.

I am working on a new Automotive Based Affluent Texas Male Lifestyle Magazine called Texas Driver Magazine. We are based out of Dallas (just at the Tollway and Keller Springs) and we want to introduce ourselves to everyone at Ferrarichat!

Mike at Norwood suggested that we join up and post a note for the bunch to take a look and ask you for your input on the things you would like to see in a magazine.

Drop me a note and I would love to hear your input.

Jim
