I second Tillman's thanks to Jerry Hawley. When I was in Dallas to test drive the car I eventually purchased, Jerry showed up and let me, a complete stranger, drive his car for comparative purposes. Real nice guy.

Also just thinking about first 12 months of any Ferrari ownership or maybe any used car. I think you will always spend more money the first year to get everything taken care of and have some peace of mind.

I'm so glad to hear your thought on ownership. I hope I will be able to enjoy the ownership as well as you have.
Although I won't be able to drive for while my 328, I hope you'll enjoy your driving school in Dec., and cool winter drive, too. (better than hot summer drive??)

Actually, that's a mod from the previous owner. I didn't even realize it wasn't stock until I ran into him later.

He just took some thin orange tape and worked it in. Looks like it was made that way.

Hi Tillman - Love the car!

Do you know anything about where the dials with the red trim came from?

Yeah, it's all Jerrys fault!

Congrats on your one year anniversary. I still remember the smug look on your face at Carsons the day you picked it up.

A year ago yesterday I took possession of my first Ferrari. More accurately, it took possession of me.

12 months and approximately 10,000 miles later, I have to say that owning this car has been everything I thought it would be.

There's been exhilaration and there's been frustration. I've learned that little repairs cost large amounts of money, and I've learned that I can do repairs myself. I've learned the glory of a back road on an early Sunday morning, and the ignominy of "license and insurance, sir."

Yes, some dreams are worth waiting 20 years to achieve.

Most importantly, I've learned that most other exotic enthusiasts are decent people who just happen to have different aspirations than normal. I was really afraid that I would start hanging out with other enthusiasts and find that all the stereotypes were true: stuck up, snobby rich guys who really are only interested in the cars as trophy pieces. Thus far, I can't say that I've met many like that. Instead, most are just car guys -- and that, in my book, is a compliment.

So thanks to everyone local who has made this fun, and a specific thanks to Jerry Hawley, who gave me my first ride in a Ferrari. In a way, this is all your fault :-)
