Just had to share...so please forgive the NFC content! It was a lot of fun and like everyone else, I still can't believe it! We had a lot of fun and due to lack of interest on the original invite from Kirk and other circumstances, Kirk (The Captain) could not join us. However, we had three S2000's show up: - dtms and myself navigating - Sondra S2k and jwfisher navigating - Silver S2000 (from Houston) and his daughter navigating (note: nicks are from S2ki.com)
A few other cars showed up - a Prowler, an RX7, a Subaru RS Wagon (who was on a previous drive of ours) an MR-Spydeer, and of course lots of Miatas!
We were given instructions and sent off into the wilderness (of sorts) where our destination would eventually be in Fredericksburg. These instructions had general directions and also included [painful] average speeds that we had to maintain - including a 48mph 5+ mile spurt in a 70mph zone! If I were driving, I wouldn't have the patience! Actually, while travelling at the rates that we did on the roads back there was a good thing, I got to see scenery! Who knows, I could have driven on some of those roads before, but least likely.
The rest of the rally made us think with some riddles and some clues that we had to fill in from observations while on the road. Occassionally we would run into a check point area and stop on the side of the road to get signed off with our time at those checkpoints. The Results: Third place - Whit in his Subaru RS Wagon (no navigator) Second place - Sondra S2k and jwfisher navigating First place - dtms and myself navigating
Lots of fun, lots of sun, and I can't wait to do this again in the fall! Thanks to the Tejas Miata group for hosting a great event! More pictures here: http://www.graphyte.com/photos/miata_rally_may_2002/index.php Link to Texas Rally Invitational Series 2002: http://www.snikte.net/rally/index.html |
