Rob, et. al.

I think that car is the same one my friend looked at. I put some pics he took online at http://www.strahan.org/308project

It's rough, but the owner claims it just had a major service.

The 512TR was me at West Village. Interesting valet pricing as they waived me up front and had me park in the prime spot. After I parked and got out the head of the valet walks over and says its $20 for the front spot when normally its $4. Thats fine but just tell me before hand in case I don't want the special treatment.

Dang dang, why does everyone else get to see all the Ferraris. I never see any between Southlake and Las Colinas, I have to visit Norwoods to get my fix. BodD, drive your dang Ferrari around Southlake so I can see another one.

With all the money out there, on nice days you can tell it's a P town and also many classic muscle cars, no Ferraris though.

Just a note on ECW. I was in there on Saturday while they were packing up and talked to Mike. He basically said that the location did not bring in the buyer traffic, and was not really worth the expense of having the showroom. He indicated he may be looking to North Dallas/Plano, but may decide not to go with a showroom since a large part of the business is off the web. He indicated he's still in business, so you can still contact him off the website if looking for a car.

Raleigh, I've spent a total of $260 in maintenance costs (3 expensive oil changes) since it rolled off the enclosed transporter in Feb 1999, almost 4 years ago. The 15K service (including belts) was completed before I purchased it. I've spent $0.00 in repair costs. BTW, I bought it with 13K miles, it now has 18.5K miles on it. A couple of other things, I spent $90 on an Optima battery and replaced the original tires (10+ years old) with Goodyear Eagle F1s.

I drive it hard and have fun with it but I do NOT beat the $hIt out of it. I don't care what anybody says, these are nothing more than expensive Fiats (ask Ed Gault). British sports cars are just like Fiats... and I've owned my share of British sports cars over the years. Take care of them and they will take care of you. Beat them and be prepared to pay. Just my opinion.

I've talked about getting rid of it... but keep asking myself why??? So far, it's been as reliable as my Toyotas. I hope this isn't a jinx!

I was hoping to talk with Mike first to do an official announcement, but ECW isn't gone.

They let some of their staff go and they have asked some of the consignment car owners to pick them up. I believe without first talking with Mike, that he's a made a business decision that it might be more profitable not to be at that location and with a full staff. I'll update everyone when I get the official word, Mike is still a dealer and in business! His personal email is on the www.exoticcarworld.com site.

The $2500 service should only be every 15k miles or 3-4 years. Ask BobD how much he's spent on his car in the past 3 years, you wouldn't believe it, unless he told you.

Bob,

Thanks for the advice. I have heard about people driving 328's with 180k miles on them and only paying the $2500 for service annually. I really am looking for the "Ferrari" sound as well as the rest of the package. I have never heard a 328 before so I can't say what it sounds like.

I also was thinking about a 348 twin turbo challenge car. ECW had one a while back, but I don't know how reliable they are. I need to talk to Jonathan. By the way, if you don't know Exotic Car World is gone.

One last question. Is a 355 a good car to drive everyday? I can't justify paying $80,000 for a car and not driving it. I know 355's have known exhaust problems and the F1's have some clutch issues. So, all opinions are welcome.

Raleigh, here's the word on the street. Early 348s (prior to Spyder production) are said to be problem prone and very expensive to repair... lots of electronics compared to the 328/308. The 328 was the final derivative of the 308 series and Ferrari had 10+ years to work out all the bugs. 328s are often said to be the most reliable F-cars ever built. I can attest to that as I've had zero problems in nearly 4 years. Others haven't been so lucky.

Although 348s have a more modern feel and more horses, there are a few people out there who do not like the 4/5th's TR look of it... many don't like the cheese graters. But if you've got a few extra bucks in your pocket to invest in a later model year or are willing to gamble a bit, then you should go for it... especially if you like the looks.

One other thing to think about. Consider the last production year of the 328 and the first production year of the 348... 1989. Look at comparable condition examples, the 348 will cost you $5,000 less than the 328. Can you think of another transition year for Ferrari models where the newer car actually costs less? 308 to 328, no. 348 to 355, no. 355 to 360, no. 328 to 348, yes. I believe there's a reason for this.

Ty,

You are right about the F355, I was able to drive one this past summer and that cars sounds amazing! It was an unusual color combonation as well: White with Camel leather, it was very nice indeed!

Raleigh,

As for the 348 and the 328, I say drive them both, if you have not already and see which one you like better. It all comes down to which car makes you excited between the two. I want my first to be the 328 just because I like the overall lines and shape of the car and it handles very well-Thanks to BobD and JimE showing that to me!

-Best regards,
Marcus

Marcus,

The 360 is everything you expect a Ferrari to be. The exhaust is high pitched like a F1 car. Some people don't like it, but I thought it made the experience better. The ride was given to me by a friend.

I am constantly looking for my first Ferrari. I love the 308 body, but after being in that 360 I think the 348 would be a better choice. The 348 sound if great, and for the money, is more in my price range. The two cars are like apples to oranges, but I am torn. Any suggestions would be gladley received. Jonathan from ECW has been telling me to get a 348 as a first Ferrari as well as a 328. Who's got an opinion?

Well, met this guy yesterday and he gave me a ride in his Lambo, pretty sweet fast as hell (went to 100 in no time), but this particular Lamborghini was rough. The previous owner was Mike Tyson, I am sure that had something to do with it. Some jack ass in a mustang had tried to race him but got a nasty bite, it was quite funny actually. The 6.0 and the murcielago are much better in ride and performance, by what he told me.

On the way to meet him, I saw the yellow Mucielago at Champs...I think god is punishing me by rubbing it in a little, the second time I have seen it in a week!

R Smith,

How was your ride? That is another car I would love to get a ride in-lucky dog! Hope you had fun!!!

-I hope everyone has a great weekend, it looks like it is going to rain though.

Saturday,
going through a neighborhood to show my friends around Dallas (this was off Monfort) came across a deep purple Lamborghini Diablo VT. Got out of the car and talked to the two gents for a couple of minutes, very nice guys! Tuesday, get a call for a meeting from the same guy who owns an internet provider, he is bringing the car! The interview is today...can't wait.

not me, I hope it's not Bill Harris. That's the only other red 328 I know in Dallas. I'm sure there are about two dozen though. I've seen two or three different ones at Norwoods, includding that 130k mile one.

Yesterday morning I was behind a silver Maserati Coupe (4.2L 390hp V8 by Ferrari) taking the exact same route I'd seen the 360 take earlier. I'd thought it'd be the same person, but then I saw the Maserati parked in the garage just north of the Madison building.

That is awesome! It is a beautiful one at that! I am glad to see someone drive their car on a daily basis.

Spotted another one around the area. A yellow 348 across the street from one of the Million Air offices in the buildings strips. Paper plates from florida-very nice car!

Madison is located at Keller Springs and Tollway. A bit south of keller springs right by the tollway toll booth with 92.5kzps on the top floor. This guy parks on the 3rd floor of garage EVERY day. It is his 4th ferrari and he drives it dails rain or shine. Gotta love that.

Spotted a 78 or 79 silver 308 (Thursday), very clean one at that. It was on Spring Valley and Monfort, older gentlemen driving it.

Marcus, I saw that same (I assume) red 360 in Addison on Monday. I was going south on Quorum and turned east onto Airport Parkway. Perhaps the owner works in the Maddison building there?

Today during lunch I saw a red 348 in the Albertson's parking lot northeast of Frankford and the Tollway. I couldn't tell if the conversation he was having with the two cops was friendly or not. :-O

Did see Blalock and A-Rod hit back to back dingers last night at the Ballpark - and Palmeiro win it with same in the 8th, so still a worthwhile visit to the Metroplex.

Also, Rob there is a 1985 RX7 for sale in my parking lot at work. Red with a 302 V8 and nitrous oxide! It also has 17" mustang wheels on it so I assume the engine is from the same car? Pretty beaten up looking and the wheels look retarded, but I wonder how fast it is? No price on it.

Coming east on 114 this morning a 996 and C5 came up on me so quick and I was going 80 mph. I pulled over and then they gunned it again. The 996 had about 8 car lengths when they got on it again, but within quarter mile the C5 was just a few yards off the 996's bumper. Pretty dang unsafe in morning rush hour, but I imagine what happened was the Porsche owner had the C5 messing with it and it never thought a car worth half as much could hang with it, much less eat it for breakfast.

Friday after work I went down to Greg's office to pick him up for a happy hour. He goes "hey Rob, would you mind helping me put my spoiler back on the Viper." We went up to the parking garage and there she was... oh my! Bella bella bella. Without a doubt I think the Testarossa is one of the most beautiful and recognizable Ferraris ever. It has such a presence that transcends being just an automobile into art and other areas that can't be described except for the emotional effect that overwhelms you.

It is such a great car. It's a 1988 red/tan in great condition. The paint, body, engine bay, and everything are really in concours condition. Only minor flaws are typical worn seat bolster, scratched front ground spoiler, small 2 inch crack on windshield, and dash cover coming up a little. I think it's really a 99.9% perfect Ferrari.

I went in FOD at lunch today, they had a brand new red 360 w/ the 3 piece modular wheels, daytona seats, factory high output stereo w/ subwoofer, red calipers and challenge grilles front and rear. Sticker on it was $160k. It was gorgeous.

The one in front of DeBoulle belongs to Dennis Boulle, the owner. Last year, he had a bunch of F-cars there for his grand opening, simultaneous with the FCA National meet being in Dallas! DEFINITELY a lot of eye candy there.....and the cars were nice, too.

He also "dabbles" in the 355 Challenge series, which is fading from view. FYI, Dennis is a GREAT guy, and very easy to do business with...

Regarding the post-race BURN-OUT escapade, I knew there were a couple non-Ferrari owners there and I hate showing off the brute power of the 328... so I exited the building in a quiet, polite manner with a small toot of the horn.

Now, when everyone was out of sight, I turned right onto the Stemmons service road and smoked a triple donut before doing a 4 wheel slide entering the I-35E entrance ramp. Once on the expressway, I drove 55 all the way home.

20 ft skids? Sorry, my foot slipped off the clutch...and landed on the gas. I couldn't resist, the open garage was just too tempting. After I boxed Jim in between a semi and a slow poke, some joker in a Camaro wanted to play. He was riding my bumper like a license plate. I hit the exit ramp off 35 to 190 at about 90mph to leave him behind only to have him roar past me once the road straightened out again. Why is it any time you see a Camaro, Corvette or Mustang on the highway they feel the need to mess w/ you?

I was still inside, but I heard a Ferrari 8 at full song and tires squeeling out in the garage. I know it wasn't Bob, so hmm, I wonder who it was. There was also about a handful of rubber piled up at the start of about a 20 ft. skid marks. I love the sound of the Ferraris in tunnels or garages like that.

I saw a 348 like that last summer at Zubar on Greenville Ave. Had the purple/red iridescent paint, big polished HRE type wheels and was running with a red 355. I almost cried as the car reminded me of a tricked out honda civic. All it was missing was a 3 foot tall wing and a 6" round exhaust tip!

Saw a 348 spyder down greenville ave. yesterday around 6:30 pm. I saw this one for sale in Plano months ago, it had the mystic style paint, where it constantly changed colors, red Momo seats, and some huge rims on it. Maybe it's just me, but the modifications just didn't seem to fit well with the Ferrari.

On a side note to Rob and Greg - I finally got my Mustang going and driving around! Just need to get the registration/inspection back up to date.

OK guys,

while it's not a Ferrari I did see a Red Pantera parked in the lot across from the Dallas Morning Newspaper place on Plano Parkway near Coit. I guess I just gave away that I'm in town (but I'm leaving in the morning). The only other Ferrari I saw during my stay is a black 355 spyder and well that was outside at FOD (guess that doesn't count for much). I pass FOD alot returning to Plano.

Wishing all the DFW-FC'ers well.

Her excuse for driving "nervous" was that the inspection sticker has expired and I hadn't given her the new proof of insurance for the last half of the year.

Funny, but she always drives nervous in the Ferrari and usually the paperwork is there. We'll see what her excuse is next time. Sometimes her excuse is just because I'm with her, but that she usually drives ok without me. Ha, now I have proof she always drives like that.

Keep up the spying guys! 1,400 users around the world and I will know everything. Dang, I guess that can back fire on me too. ;)

Jonathan is a good guy as is Mike who owns the place. I didn't know that James had moved over from Norwoods until the second visit there. The challenge car would be fun but you would need a lot of track time to enjoy it. Not sure if you know but it has a twin-turbo for a little extra excitement.

Congrats Rich on your car. I'm glad you had a good experience with Exotic Car World. I don't know the others very well, but James has always been great.

I'm really looking forward to TMS. Always fun to do a new track. I did two parade laps in the 328 at an ALMS event in the rain. I guess this may be a tad bit faster.

You should come to some FerrariChat.com/FCA local events.

Actually I was the person picking up the 348 Spider on Friday. I sold my 308GTSi in January and had been looking for quite some time to find the right car. I was really torn between the TR and 348 but am very happy with my choice. There was an old post asking if anyone had dealt with the folks at Exotic Car World and at that time no one had. I must say I was very happy with the way they handled the deal. The seller caused a few wrinkles in the process but they were able to navigate through that. Glad to be back on the road again. Rob, I will likely see you at the SCCA event in July at TMS as I run a Spec Miata.

Since they are sponsors, I would expect them to be passing the word around. I do need cards though.

Hey Rob, you should get some Ferrarichat.com business cards and leave them when you see Ferraris. I was at Exotic car world last Friday and they were delivering a 348 Spider, I should have told him to join us.

1171 west of Flower Mound roughly 4:30 pm today: a black 308GT4. Very nice in that color, and certainly attention-getting.

I was stopped at Luna and 635 in my 360 when an F40 with paper tags went cruising by. Unfortunately, I couldn't turn and follow.

I saw a beautiful 360 yesterday in (I think this is what the color is-I looked it up) Rooso Barchetta w/ black interior. It was at the Kroger off of Parker and the tollway. Challenge grill, Scuderia Shields, colored calipers, and it was a six speed. Great color combo!

There is a dark blue 355 spyder parked out front at Woody's car stereo sometimes. Shop owners car? Anyway, Woody's is on Camp Bowie in West Ft. Worth.

I was in Dallas for a day last week. Saw a red 328 in the morning trying to turn onto Mockingbird near the Dallas Country Club. Then, around 2 PM, saw a silver 400i or 412i going north on the Tollway at around Royal (I was going south), and then a Barchetta Red 360 coupe also going north around NW Hwy. 3 in 5 hours!!

I saw a red 360 Tuesday at Campbell and Greenville, only the 2nd Ferrari I've ever seen while I was driving mine. He of course didn't notice me. When I stopped for lunch there was a guy in his full Ferrari livery; shirt, hat, etc. I watched him leave w/ his friends and gesticulate wildly when he saw my car.
