I would suggest that you get back on A1A at Port Canaveral and continue South. It's a pretty drive.

That is quite a trip. Did drive to Charlston last month and back and booh, what a trip.

I would drive down on I95 to St. Augustine and head for the scenic route A1A south of Daytona Beach. Then in Daytona back on I95 south, you can head back into A1A in Palm Beach, coast along A1A till the end of PB and head back to I95. In Miami drive all the way to Miami Beach. Noting interesting to see along the beach here exept South beach.

Call me if you want to get together.
I live about 15 min north of South Beach right of A1A.

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. Will certainly check out St. Augustine and some of the other suggestions provided. Just by way of clarification, will not have an F-car for the ride -- just a regular ol' rental. So the "twisties," while enticing, probably won't provide the same level of excitement in a Tauras! :-)

Let me spend a couple of days reviewing some other information I am gathering, and I will post with additional questions thereafter. If you guys have any additional thoughts in the interim, please feel free to post.

You've all been a great help already.

Regards.

St. Augustine is excellent, if you did not know better in some places, you'd swear you were in Old World Spain or Italy. There are some great sand dune beaches aside from the old town areas.

A word of warning about passing through Jacksonville though. The Interstate system through Jax is going through a major revamping, lanes are torn up and it is a much bigger pain traveling through there than usual on I-95 and I-295 and the troopers are out big time.

I was just in Jax on the weekend and this construction appears to be a long term project and, believe me, it's a big mess.

A very scenic tour of inland Florida may be nice and it wont throw you too far off course if you like hilly, (yes, hilly) backroads and middle of no where scenery dotted with sleepy little towns such as Mt. Dora and Eustis.

Some of these back roads are great Ferrari territory and end up in Orlando where you may then pick up the Turn Pike or jet over to I-95 via the Beeline Expressway.

If you're up for venturing off the beaten path a bit, I know some Ferraristi in that area whom may be able to map you out a nice diversion.

I agree with Paul...sounds like St. Augustine would be a good choice. Rich with historical sites (Old Fort, Old Town, etc.), hundreds of shops (including a huge outlet mall), many restaurants (especially if you like seafood), and the beach is just a 10 minute drive. There are hundreds of places to stay as well...from regular hotels / bed & breakfasts all the way to golf resorts / condos on the beach.

I live about 20 minutes from St. Augustine, and go there very often for dinner, beach, shopping, etc. It's a great place...not to crowded right now, but the crowd grows when summer arrives.

It really sounds like you want St Augustine which is really a nice place between the old town and the new. I would check out both Cocoa and St Augustine on the web as I can't offer much more info.

Thanks Paul. Less for fun (we'll save that for Miami itself) and more for history and/or scenic vistas. Is there more to Coco than just the beach (ie, is the surrounding town also very quaint with natural beauty, etc.)

Regards.

Hi All,

Will be driving down from Hilton Head to Miami on a Sunday in July. Although the distance seems to be approximately 515 miles, and the suggested travel time 8 hours, my colleagues and I want to make it a leisurely two day drive. We'll probably start from HH in the morning on Sunday with the idea being to arrive in Miami on Monday morning.

Wanted to ask if you guys could offer some suggestions on places to stay for the night on Sunday. That whole strip is very scenic from what I hear, and I'm thinking there should be lots of beautiful pit stops we could make. Something that is at the half-way point or further along would be appreciated so the drive to Miami on Monday morning is not a very long one, as we'd like to get there by mid- to late-morning.

Thanks much, and look forward to getting your thoughts.

Regards.
