Sarasota beaches are beautiful. I also can't agree more about living on the Gulf. My vacation home is on the Gulf but north of Tampa. I'm actually kicking around going into semi-retirement and moving back for good. Nothing beats sunsets on that blue green water.

Comparing Sarasota and Tampa is like comparing apples and oranges, Tampa is a Medium size city whereas Sarasota is more small town. I would agree with Keith generally but I live in Sarasota and would never ever consider Tampa as a place to live. I was born, raised and worked in NY so it not like I haven't done city life before.
The best parts about Sarasota is we are right on the GULF and we have the most beautiful beaches in the world, and yet we are only 1 hour from Tampa or Ft Meyers. Every weekend I roll my jet Ski's into the water and have a blast. Oh yeah and we have the best group of ferrari owners in the world who get together every month for dinner and other events all with no dues, boards and politics just look at all the past events posted.

Scott, I grew up in Tampa (now I'm in Northern VA). I just recently bought a 2nd home about an hour away from Tampa on the Gulf. That doesn't make me an expert, but for what it's worth, Sarasota is a little slow - mostly the traditional retirement town. Tampa has a wide variety of neighborhoods and personalities. Also has lots more employment, cultural, entertainment, sports and recreation opportunities. Really depends on what you want out of the place, but for me, Tampa offers more of what I want.

I don't mean to bother you all, but I may be moving to Florida soon, and may have a choice between Sarasota and Tampa. I put the original question in the OT room. Basically, I am just looking for opinions regarding the two cities. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Scott
