You must make friends pretty easy :-O

If you can extend to August 4th you can do one of Pauls famous Dinners. That group is a lot of fun and will get you to see the Sarasota side as well.

Martin,

Thanks the for heads up. I was thinking about that and actually surfed around your wife's website a few days ago. I'm not sure Miami is right for me though.. especially since there's a particular girl there who wants me dead (scars to prove it :-) ) and I actually was dead for a few minutes in Ft. Lauderdale. Bad vibes from that corner of the state I guess.

I'm actually coming down to Tampa Aug 1-3 to check things out... should be interesting. Thanks for all the advice!

If you will consider Miami and the Beaches let me know and I will steer you in the right direction.

My wife is one of the top 5% Real Estate Professionals in Dade County. She knows the Beach in and out. Willam bought through her and is quite happy.

I can only comment on the east coast of FL. I have never been to the west coast but heard that it is alot quieter. I live in Jupiter and love the area. Also as far as track events are concerned, I am close to Moroso and approx 1 1/2 hours from both Sebring and Homestead. This should not be your deciding factor. The closest track you would have would be Sebring.

Robin, You can get a lot of information from www.tbo.com . The surge maps are on the hurricane center page. Look at the bottom of the home page for the link. The site covers the cities in the center of the west coast.

Interesting comments.. Sarasota is what originally drew me towards the gulf coast, since my uncle has a condo on Longboat key. Now that I think about it, the condo was flooded the last time I was there... That's definitely something I'm keeping in mind. I'd like to live close to the water, but don't want to worry about floods.. especially since I'll hardly ever be home.

My biggest concern is lack of knowledge of the different areas around a city. For instance, in the Northern VA area I can tell you that Great Falls is a fantastic place to be, but Manassas isn't, even though they're only 10 miles apart.. but around Tampa Bay, I couldn't tell you the difference between Apollo Beach, Heron Creek, or Clearwater. Any particular zip codes to avoid/look for? Or particular builders to steer clear of? Also, an active F-car area would be a definite bonus.. Sounds like Tampa and Sarasota both work for that. Thanks again for all the help!

Robin, I live in the Tampa area and any place on the west coast will be good. The Tampa Bay area and Sarasota area each have Ferrari dinners. The best advice I can give you is to check the hurricane evacuation maps for the area you are considering. We get very few hurricanes but the summer storms can cause flooding. You want to be high and dry. A drowned Ferrari does not sell well. Let us know where you locate and we will get you the dinner details.

I have lived up and down Florida. I settled into the Sarasota area. This is a cultural center, away from the big cities and crime but close enough to visit Tampa or Ft. Myers / Naples within and hour.

Still with reasonable pricing on beach / intercoastal housing.

Most important is that we have the best attended Ferrari dinners in Florida. Need i say more?

If you want less crowded, try the Panama City....Rosemary Beach....Seagrove Beach....Seaside....Destin area. If you don't mind being more remote, the Cape San Blas area is excellent-- talk to Frank P.

Hey everyone, advice time. I started a new job recently that allows me the freedom to live wherever I want, as well as a decent amount of money to buy the things I want (new house, 355, etc :-) ) My dilemma is that now that I can move anywhere in the country, I can't decide where to go. I think I've settled on the gulf coast of Florida because of the relatively inexpensive cost of living (I'm coming from the Washington DC area) as well as the palm trees, white sandy beaches, and clear bluegreen gulf water.

I've found a house a few miles from the beach just northwest of Tampa Bay, but wanted to get some input from anyone who lives in the area. I'll be travelling 10-11 months out of the year, so I won't be there very often... just want to be able to come home to a warm beach when I do get away from work. Any thoughts? better places to go? Thanks in advance!
