Bruce, not that i wanna seem like i'm involved in this whole forum region post count orgy, but you really need to stop posting over there... we can share a cell and talk about how getting arrested really sucks, once we sober up. We could take turns on which night either of us get realy smashed, that way the less drunk one can watch after the really bad one. Mardi Gras,or Fat Tuesday, is always the tuesday before ash wednesday. The New Orleans area is predominantly Catholic so the tues was the last chance to "cut loose" before the Easter season came with all its fasting and whatnot. It has literally exploded over the years to include about the entire month before ash wed. We have parades,not like y'alls parades(macy's thanksgiving day),but parades with floats with drunken people throwing beads,trinkets,etc to even more drunken,and half-naked (not all but alot) people on the parade route. The real hardcore debauchery is more centered near downtown and the french quarter. So it is still mostly family oriented. It has spread also to as far away as Houston and I believe Mobile Al also has a few parades. If you are ever in a position to make it down for MG by all means DO IT!!! It is something you wil NEVER forget for as long as you live. It is March 4 this year and it pays to book rooms early! Each year the crowds get bigger and bigger.(in the hundreds of thousands!) I didn't know how much it was covered up there. My dad is the guy who started it all by mentioning it to Gov. Foster. For his part, he got to go up with the first engine,which went to Firehouse 283, and meet Bush in the oval office and on the South Lawn,as well as Pataki etc during the dedication at the firehouse.La had enough $left over to build 2 more trucks which he went up to help deliver this week.
