The problem is that most of the people that would want to rent a car like that are in Manhattan. There having a car is a pain in the azz.

Its true, no one respects rental cars except maybe my mother. I know i dont becuse they dont belong to me, or any one person. Its company property, plus if i break it, thie $9 a day insurance that hertz charges will cover it. My father and i once returned a v6 stang vert on 3 wheels (put a hole in a sidewall of one) after a 1 week and over 900 miles going from san diego to the grand canyon then to pheonix.

Phil, like Ferretti mentioned, people abuse rentals... i used to rent from, um, some rental place, very frequently - every weekend, to be exact... & holy cow, do i have some stories of what i did to and in and with some of those cars... Everything from a no-power-steering Geo Metro to a PT Cruiser, i drove 'em all... Even raced a rented Saturn against some guy in a Town Car down the east end of the Southern State, peaking out at just above 115mph, right before Heckscher... People just cold cock over and on rentals... But let me know if you open a place up, i'd love to come by... :-)

there are 4 or 5 rental agencies in the NY metro area, Insurance and start up costs will be very substantial...its a good dream, but not really feesable unless you have a lot of $ to start it up...

You would think, its easy everyone pays for insurance for the rental period, and the rentals will cover the loans on the car and i'll keep the profits on top of it...

Have you ever seen what people do to rentals? go ask some existing companies, we're the wrong people to ask :-) hope any of this helped

Here are the pros and cons that I came up with so far...

Pros
No competition... but why hasnt others done this in NY is the question.
Hamptons is local so you can defintely get business from out there in the summer.
There is money on Long Island so the business is there

Cons
Only have basically 4 months to rent it out.
Insurance

Anyone want to throw anything in here?

Anyone know of a company that would insure an exotic in NY?

I'm not aware of any companies that do that here in NY. What I can say is that few people have done it because of the insurance/liability costs in the metro NY area. It would be exorbitant to rent out exotics like Ferrari and Lamborghini.

If you do succeed in getting started, I'd love to go rent an exotic here!!

Just curious if anyone had any info on starting up an exotic car rental company or does it already... If you can pass along any info that would be great or know of a way to branch off another company... basically any info would be great... have the money but not enough knowledge for this industry just yet. Looking to do this in NY. Just trying to find the right way to start something like this up.
