I'm going to respond to Warren as if this is an actual possibility, and take him at face value. 1) Due to managed care companies having the enormous impact they have had for the past 15 years, surgeons do not make very much money any more. Average surgeon's salary in NYC=$400-500,000 per year. Very nice money, but not enough to buy a 16 y/o a 360, Lambo or any other supercar, on top of the Bentley you already have. If he is a top-tier cosmetic surgeon he can do much better, but I know most of the top-tier cosmetic guys, and Buffet doesn't ring a bell (it's a small community). I know all this because I was a surgeon. I now own a managed care company. 2) If your dad got through medical school he is too smart to buy you the car anyway. Morons just don't that far through our educational system. 3) If your dad has any trauma experience(and he would have at least a year of it if he is a US grad), he knows what mangled flesh looks like, and how high powered cars in the hands of those who don't know what to do with them cause the abovementioned mangling. It's not pretty. Again, I am speaking from experience. 4) I am a fairly experienced driver (racing courses, driving courses, many days at the track), and I own a few Ferraris, including a 360 spider and a 360 Challenge. They are very difficult to drive, and due to a low polar moment of inertia can go into a spin quickly, especially in the wet. These happen so fast that you will not recover from them without a huge amount of seat time, which you don't have. 5) NYC is the LAST place I would ever drive a 360. 6) Buy yourself a good used awd car Until you know what you are doing. Have your dad take you to the Skip Barber 2 day driving course at Lime Rock where you will learn how to get into and out of trouble. 7) I get huge amounts of attention from women in a yellow 360 spider. The few I have dated because of the car were not women you want to bring home to mom and dad. 8) If you just want to feel like a bigshot, wait until you are 21, go to a great club and order a few magnums of Krug, DP or Cristal. It's a lot cheaper and safer. |

Warren Buffet, Since you're so open about ur family's wealth, can u please share with us how much ur pops makes a year for helping save lives? Also, do you work or just milk off of them? If you could get any car in that range I would go for the NSX... it's sporty, attracts women, and is pretty reliable from what I hear. Then I would save the rest for my education! Curious... what is your gpa? Are you taking any AP classes? Do any EC stuff? Ever considered a prep school and/or building yourself into Ivy material? If it where me... like I said... I wouldn't spend a that much money on a car when I have an education ahead of me... Oh what the hell... get the Gallardo man! In a stick, no egear. |

Hey bigshot, if you're so rich, why are you attending public school in the first place instead of one of the half dozen better prep or boarding schools in NY & CT?? Wealthy kids growing up on the upper east side don't go to Stuyvesent, your BS is becoming more and more apparent... "my dads a surgeon we make decent money" I like the way you refer to the word "we", as if you had anything to do with your dad's salary or profession..

"I go to Stuyvesant HS one of the best highschools in the country and have above a 95 average (despite my inproper messege board etiquette). I think I'm deserving of a car. Judgeing whether or not someone is responsible or "insecure" should be based on ALOT more then what they type on a messege board its not even the slightest indication of their personality/responsibilty." The construction of that message is either a troll or a very, very sad commentary on the educational system. And asking for advice and then ignoring the advice you get is, indeed, indicative of your personality. It's not a matter of a "nice" car versus a "mediocre" one; it's a matter of a forgiving car versus one that demands skill and focus ... something that 16 year olds don't have, yet. Maybe it's the mental image of a 16 year old trying to be a "big shot" by driving a 360 ("how hard can it be?") in Manhattan that accounts for some of the hostility. It's not that you're likely to kill yourself -- that's just evolution in action -- it's all the others you're likely to take with you. Trying for a larger body count than the old guy in California? When I was in high school, a classmate was related to the owner of Checker car company. He also wanted to be a "big shot". It wasn't a Ferrari, it was a Checker sedan that he ran into a tree at 100 MPH. He totaled it. (You know how hard that is to do to a Checker.) He survived, but his passenger didn't. He also spent a month in a coma, and then went on to a career as a Marine. (The Navy wouldn't take him.) He doesn't have a "nice" car. Being 16 is a disease which causes you to think you know everything and are indestructible. There are two cures: getting older, and never getting any older. Choose carefully. I've never seen anyone successfully become a "big shot" by surrounding himself with sycophants and gold diggers, paid for with his father's money. The only people who become big shots by tossing around other peoples' money are politicians. And look how fast politicians' "friends" turn on them. Respect is earned, not bought with your daddy's money. Both here and on the streets. |

Getting a nice car to pick up chicks means that you do not have what it takes to get girls in the first place. Yes, one of the beneficial side effects of getting a Ferrari is that pretty women may like you more (but most of them are just gold-diggers), but most people who have money aren't interested in that trash. Since you are only 16, why don't you spend the $100,000 and spend it on your education so that when you grow up, you will be able to have a great career and a beautiful wife. |

First off, please tell me why I would want to impress a bunch of people I dont know, nor will ever know on a messege board? Judgeing whether or not someone is insecure is based on ALOT more then what they type on a messege board. I could care less what you guys think really, my dads a surgeon we make decent money, enough so that he could buy me a ferrari or something nice for my birthday. As for the "spoiled little rich kid" I go to Stuyvesant HS one of the best highschools in the country and have above a 95 average (despite my inproper messege board etiquette). I think I'm deserving of a car. Judgeing whether or not someone is responsible or "insecure" should be based on ALOT more then what they type on a messege board its not even the slightest indication of their personality/responsibilty. I come here asking you guys two very basic questions, I could care less whether or not you believe I am actually getting hte car or not, I dont even know why you guys ventured into that it really has nothing to do concerning anyone of you. I really have nothing further to discuss with anyone here. |

Warren, heres how to earn your respect: 1) Dont try to be a big shot. Lets get real here; whom are you trying to kid? Youre not getting a 360. Why? If you indeed come from an affluent family, your folks must have done quite a few things right in their life. With all due respect, sensible parents are highly unlikely to buy their children a Ferrari as their first car. 2) Cut the bullsh!t, b/c your insecurity is written all over you. A well brought up gentleman knows better that it's charm instead of fancy cars that will attract beautiful ladies. 3) Work hard and earn your own Ferrari, so no one on Ferrarichat can give you crap about you being a rich spoiled kid. Again, most of us dont buy your story. 4) Yes, your grammar is poor, but so is mine. However, would a 16-year from an affluent family raised on the upper eastside speak in slang? Warren, no one on FerrariChat are trying to disrespect you; to be honest, youre disgracing yourself. Heres what I think who you really are: you are indeed 16, never had much, but felt quite insecure. So through bragging you makes yourself feel better. I hate to tell you this, but the way you are full of yourself, no self respecting lady would ever find you attractive. You may wonder who the hell am I? So you know, Im 28-year old, I work hard and I bought my own Ferrari. I dont preach things that I dont practice. I also had the pleasure of meeting some VERY nice people on this board, such as TomD, DES and a few others. Trust me, we didnt get where we are by inflating our own ego. I hate break it to you buddy, dont try to be someone who youre not. Learn to be a man first, skills such as chivalry and class will get you a lot more girls than a 360. By the way, if you are still trying to be a big shot, at least learn how to spell Warren E. Buffett (theres an extra T in Buffett).

first, stop bullshitting. I really hope your parents wouldnt buy you a car like that. If they do, at least some good will come out of it in the form of population control. If you want large numbers of females, all you need to do is go to some shops in the village, get some nice clothes, and go to some of the city's nightclubs. You will find more than enough girls with "morally casual" attitudes in them. I work with a guy who manages clubs and i've been to his places more than a few times, full VIP reserved booth w/champagne, drinks, everything comp'ed. I cant stand clubs (ppl in them are fake, and the music SUCKS!), but when everything for you and 10+ guests is comp'ed by the house, they arent so bad. WTF would you want a 360 for anyway? ohh wait, are you talking about matchbox cars???? |

Thank you to everyone that helped so far. The thing is that I really wanted to start out with a nice car like a Ferrari or possibly the Lamborghini Gallaro. As opposed to gradually getting there via. purchase of mediocre cars. My brother has a Porsche that I'd most likely practice my shifting skills on (I mean how hard could it be?) I guess my intentions of picking up large quantities of females with my car might be somewhat dishonorable but oh well whatever makes me happy. I'm not in any mood to get married at 16, just feel like being a bigshot, and I want my car to further aid me in this. PS: Thanks alot DSG for all the advice, my highschool offers classes where you take a look at all the parts of an automobile etc. which I'm planning on taking. As for proofreading my posts, I suppose my grammer could use a little work. |

Warren, if you're at all serious: 1) Do NOT start out with a 360. This car will hurt you. It has been known to hurt (even kill) experienced drivers. Get a nice Fiat X1/9 or 124. You'll make mistakes in that, too, but it won't bother you as much. Or perhaps even an Alfa Spider -- a good learning experience, because that car will let you know whenever you don't get it right. And if any of your friends go snooty on you for not having a high price car -- tell them that acquiring skill will get you further than having the car in the body shop 90% of the year. (How "cool" will you look if you can't get the car into 2nd gear?) 2) Another reason for an older and simpler car: Learn about what makes it go. Don't become another poor schlepp that will pay $20K for a "dumbsucker valve" or $15K for "rebuilding the (tire) valve stems". The better you understand the machine, the better you can drive it, and the longer it will go without surprise shop visits. 3) Ever thought about building your own Cobra? 4) Instead of blowing a wad on a car you don't know how to drive -- yet -- get a good learning car, and put the difference into going for a performance driving / racing course -- Bob Bondurant, etc. (Rule 1 -- roads are not race tracks.) 5) If you really want to pour money into a car, try starting with a shifter kart, and work up from there. 6) The women you can get just by having a fancy car --- you don't want. Really. Trust me on this one. 7) A car for Manhattan? It's yellow. Or checkered. You can take every trip in a cab for what parking would cost. If you live on upper east side, a car is for weekend trips out of town. Or for racetracks. Let the cabs worry about potholes. Want to impress a date? Get one of the horse drawn cabs. 8) If you want to be taken seriously online, learn to proofread your posts. Spoken slang doesn't translate well to the written word. |

Does warren buffet (the real one) have a 16 yr old son? "warren"- yeah, i drive a piece of crap acura. so what. Money may buy you a 360 but it wont buy you class. Assuming what you say is true, how do you know your insurance company will even cover you if you crash? If you arent on the insurance you may not be covered at all. Wouldnt it suck if you got in an accident, killed some people and your parents lost everything they had because YOu weret covered? Dont worry, living in boxes isnt so bad once you get used to it. |

Hey, guys, is there any reason we can't give Warren the benefit of the doubt here...? He didn't come in here calling anyone names, he came in here asking for advice... As far as his intentions once he acquires the DESired automobile, well, why can't you just say, "Hey, Warren, any girl who only wants to hang out with you because of the car you drive is not worth hanging out with and people will get the wrong impression of you if you only want a car to attract women..." The license/insurance advise was good, why couldn't everything else be along those lines...? Warren, good luck in whatever you do; keep us posted and should you encounter problems, i'm sure there are some here who will give you whatever advice they can without dubbing you a 'fag' or some other such senselessly inappropriate and pointless name. |

Tim I really think you should stfu atleast Im not going to be driving a piece of crap acura. I really dont care about the insurance costs all that much 10K isnt so bad. I'll just have the car registered under my parents and try not to get into any accidents. And I'm not going to use the Gallaro or F360 which ever I decide upon as an everyday car most likely I'll just stick with my dads Lexus SC430 which is nice for everyday driving. My main intent on starting this thread was to find out The effect of potholes that are rather common in Manhattan on a ferrari 360 aswell as the amount of females the car attracts. And I'm probably going to take a drivers ed course whenever that may be and as sson as I get my permit I intend to start driving. |

if you arent listed on the insurance, and you get in an accident, you will still be covered if somewthing happens while you are driving, but the insurance company will drop you and you will have a HARD time finding insurance for many years. I would say insurance for you (actually for a 16 yo who actually has a 360) would be over $10k a year. I am basing this estimate on a $9k a year quote for a 16yo for a viper. |

Dinja see 2Fat2Furryarse? For the really cheap 'n easy pieces, ya gotta go with rice. But ya can fit lots of hos in a pimped out Caddy. Just make sure you have change for the TROLL roads. |

Hey Warren, if you are just looking for chicks why not just spend your $150,000 on the attractive women you meet. You won't have to worry about insurance or parking... |

You are 16 and, hey, you only live once so why sell yourself short? The 360 is a nice car and all but it is the low end entry level model. As for the Merc, WTF??? Its like an old mans car. Great if you want to cruise by the old folks home. To be a red blooded male who will score all the tail check out a Lambo. The tricks, bitches and hos will be all over you man. Dont worry about the potholes, just hit them fast and you will fly right over. What do you think the wing is for? Also get a bus/van to follow you around too. You can only fit 2 chicks in the passenger seat so you need the bus to haul all the other chicks back to the hotel. |
