Which one is correct A. Center badge no chrome outer trim B. Center badge with chrome outer trim. C. Other. Thanks all, Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No Chrome around outside edge, but is around the Dino script. Yellow background, blue letter interiors. Photo attached Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is this a quiz? My guess is that YOU, of all people, know the correct answer. If you mean wheel hubcap centers (and not the steering wheel), I don't think either are correct. The first (A) looks like the metal ones that came out of the Netherlands a few years back and were at one time advertised on eBay as being hubcap centers. I couldn't tell from seeing them on eBay but I bid on a set and got them pretty cheap - they were incorrect - wrong size, made of metal, etc. They are best descibed as paperweights or belt buckles. (B) is also incorrect in that the script should be blue, and on mine the script has narrow metallic outline - sort of gold/silver. Mark
I agree totally. I too have received the metal-backed versions and have returned them. I'm also surprised that DM is asking this question. Is he possibly referring to the steering wheel horn button? That's a different question.
Here are a couple more images. Note that one is purple/silver, the other the black and gold. We really need to find a good source of these! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't faint. I'm trying to replace the center caps on a set and have three options. 1. Fix the ones I have. 2. Buy replacements. 3. Fabricate good replacements. Looks to me like the real ones are a combination of hot stamping (chromed edge around the Dino script) and paint. I could re-create the stamping with stuff I have at work, but I'd need to find good blanks to start from. I have seven center Dino caps, and eight wheel caps, so I'm either going to need to replace one full set, so they match, or replace them all with something that's correct. All of mine are plastic, with silver trim and dark blue script. I was gonna go do some digging around, but before I did, I wanted to make sure EXACTLY what the right cap is to look for. My car does not have the original dino caps, so I wasn't sure which was right. Dave M.
Mine is original but the flash combined with proper "Corbani-izing" of the color/contrast/brightness balance may have made the blue lighter than normal.
The answer is C. The logo of Dino Ferrari's signature is always blue with a silver outline on a yellow backing. The nose badge, horn button and the wheel cap emblem will all be the same. The Dino Service sign is the same. The wheel cap emblem does not have a border around the edge. The black signature with a gold outline was a mistake on a reproduction.
To Dave: I don't know if you've checked with Dennis McCann lately, but about a year ago I bought a couple of slightly used wheel emblems from him. The colors were still bright, but there were a few "spots" in the yellow background paint where the adhesive lifted the paint when the the emblem was removed from the metal cap. I was able to take them to my local paint and body shop and they touched up the yellow. You can not tell them apart from my other NOS (perfect) emblems I bought from Dennis earlier. It might be worth a try.
I can make them but I would need one as a sample - no harm would come to it. PM is anyone is interested. I didn't realize that there was no source for them. Andrew
It's hard to say - I think it would be more reasonable than some of the other items you find out there in the world wide web. As with all of these type of items the start up time and cost in getting it right requires a substantial personal investment. Just look at Verell's attempts to get the Dino turn signal lens right. I am not even sure it can be reproduced - I would need to have my shop look at it. As a fellow enthusiast I want the best product possible - no BS here - so it would take some time to develop. I would also need to send samples to someone for fit.
My exhaustive research indicates that I have some that are correct, and some that are almost correct. These appear correct, I have four, a little ratty, but this is the best of the bunch. I'm chasing down a source now, I'll let all of you know tomorrow. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login
Please apply the correct Corbani technique to retain the high standards of photographic prowess that this forum is used to.
I already did that. I posted this photo to accurately reflect the correct colors. however, in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the Dino sector, here you go... Image Unavailable, Please Login
About 10 years ago I bought a bunch from Dennis McCann. He sent me the best 10 or 12 that he had. I put them carefully away. Now, when I could use them, I can't find them. Like most things, I should have just left them sitting around on a shelf in my basement, next to the steel wool, acetone, paint thinner, brass polish, and the Journal of the Perpetual Motion Society collection left in the basement by the previous owner of my house. Then I would have found them for sure. Mark
How about metal/ceramic badges? Does anyone out there actually still have their original ones that could post a picture or two? I know we have a couple of original cars/owners here, maybe they could help. DM
dave attatched are the caps that are on my late 74 car (08468). they are original. they actually look far worse in the photo than they are. as you can see, they have to ring around the outside. the caps are simply glued to the wheel cap. Eurospares sells them for about 12.50 GBP each, good reproductions http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320024567789 also known by Eurospares part: Ferrari 206 / 246 and 208 GT4 Dino Wheel Trim Sticker
I looked at the Eurospares Dino Wheel Trim Sticker on the eBay auction site and they look like the belt buckle/paperweight versions (which were made out of metal) that I bought a few years ago. The ones I bought years ago (not from Eurospares) were incorrect. My originals have a plastic (or what appears to be plastic) base. Carlo Durante tried to see if they could be used and they were totally wrong - in material, diameter, and thickness. I emailed Eurospares and asked what their versions were made of and how thick, and they replied: "metal, around 2 mm approx thick." Also, they appear to have a shiny metalic circumference which my originals do not. It would sure be great if the Eurospares versions are in fact the correct size and color, even if they are made of metal. Mark
