04676 is the earliest one in the Dino Register with flares. Sooo..... Maybe the car left the factory that way. DM
Wouldn't be my first choice of interior colour scheme but any black dino with campys, chairs+flares is alright by me
Maybe I don't get it but I think that interior looks beautiful. I would not go so far as to call it tacky. I am not a purist so I have no idea if it 'should' look that way or not, but I love the color scheme and there is nothing at all outlandish... The blue/yellow 360 Modena interior picture floating around the boards is tacky.... this, definitely not!
Sure does get my juices flowing, coz........ Thats how mine (apart from the interior) is going to look ONE day! Right now i'm off to the garage to start cleaning the wiring loom up and replacing every terminal! you see how the other half live? G.P.
Looks a lot nicer than this one- fake ferrari symbol on front nose and rear (obviously someone owned the car for the wrong reason), plus car not too good of shape for the price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Dino-246-GTS-1972-Ferrari-Dino-246-GTS-with-Chairs-and-Campagnolos_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6212QQihZ006QQitemZ160072655294QQrdZ1
the interior of this car is very interesting. i have never seen or heard of an interior leaving the factory this way. red vinyl was available, but it generally was used for the door panels and seats (assuming leather wasn't opted for). this car has the interior windsheild surround, upper door pieces, traga cover, etc, all in the red vinyl. additionally, the cream leather that makes up the seat is also used on the tunnel. once again, i have never seen anything like this before. the seats have matching piping to the inserts, once again, very unusual. the tools are for a later model dino, as well. the car was sold by tonkin (with only the slightest description by denny in the dino register) and then was unaccounted for for 25+ years. it seems to me a car like this would catch the eye of anyone looking. it seems to me that this is a car that has had a good amount spent to suit a specific owners taste, and not done with any attention to correctness or general appeal. i am surprised the car is priced as it is. there is mention of recent service work and condition. does anyone know this car first hand?
also, the sterring wheel is from a 308gt4 a couple of pics for the future when the link goes away. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I also suspect that those Campy's are not original, i think i detect the transfers that folk put on the repro wheels? And having now looked at the registry it seems strange that the flares are not mentioned until 1999, do you think that they are original or maybe it was converted to this as a profiteering project? +1 Not a fan of black cars in general, Ferraris in particular, but the OP car doesn't offend at all, and is clearly preferable to any Dino with Cavalino tack or any road Ferrari with SF badges.
i am the last person to talk about kicking a dino out of the garage, however, there are certain aspects of this car that just look plain goofy.
the car is now listed with mike sheehan. still the same asking price, but better photo's. :http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-246GTS-04890
OK, now I know the end is near. Two Toyota's for $250k each!! (see link of first post and view entire inventory).
Yeah those are not Camry's those are 2000GT's (The same car that appeared in the Bond file 'You Only Live Twice') and they are extremly rare. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_2000_GT
Agreed, but they are Toyota's!! for Pete's sake. What the hell do I know, 'cuda clones are getting 6 figures too.
2000GTs trade north of $200K don't they? Well north for a really nice one. Best 246GT on the planet won't sell for that number. Really good GTS is just under $150K, great ones are $200K, if you can get it. So, they're not really the same deal, are they? And, many of the parts are IMPOSSIBLE TO GET!!! only 40 of the 2000GT in the USA. Dunno, think I'll stick to the Dino. DM
They designed the engine; Toyota did the rest of the car and built them. It's fairly common, my MR2 3S-GTE Turbo was designed by Yamaha (it even says Yamaha on the timing belt cover) but was assembled by Toyota.
