I am starting to think about different colors for my black coupe when i start to restore it. Does anyone have any pictures of the Grigio Ferro Metallic 106-E-8? Also could you post any in azzuro? Those are the 2 possibilities so far. Thanks in advance.

The vintage metallics are different paints than modern ones; especially the silver.
Modern silver paints tend to have many individual "sparkle points" to them whiole vintage paints from the 60's and 70's had higher/broader overall luster. A local FCA winner has had his silver 246 GT since he took delivery in Italy nearly 40 years ago. Bruce's paint is original an in bright sunlight there is a uniform reflective area about a meter across with no individual highlights to it. Quite different than modern Silvers

I think you are talking about Brian's car, not Bruce. Correct?

    Hi Jon
This shot of my car was taken a few years ago, it is strange that the colour seems to change with the surroundings and brightness of the day.
Sorry I havent mastered the Corbani school of photo sharpening yet!!
    Dave

ps your dino on the other thread is looking great, nearly there!

Think hard before you change the color from black. I've had a black coupe for 25 years now - and I would not have it any other color. The black and chrome look is enduring classic modern - look at the iPhone. It will always be classy.

Metalics are funny critters as you have found already. Silver is nice but I prefer the modern version. The pictures come out better IMHO with the smaller hot spot with silver. Other colors are different so keep looking for a real example. You have to walk around it! Good Luck.

    Jon,

I think your on the right track. Black looks good on all cars, but it isn't "the best " color for all cars. Simply put, cars that have sharp edges and sharp styling details often loose these fine details because of the black. They get swallowed up and the original design is lost. I think the Dino looks great in metallic silver's. Go for it!

I find the silver paints interesting because they pick up light and the paint will take on a diffrent color depending on the conditions.

A couple of points in regards to older colors. I used original color books printed in the 1960's from a local paint supplier who has been in business forever. We were identifying paint codes for our 67 & 68 Shelby's we were in the process of restoring and I was adamant about having the correct colors on these cars. As you would imagine all of the paint manufactures reformulated their colors over the years. What I was surprised to see was how different the sprayed out colors were between PPG, DuPont, and Sherwin Williams; keep in mind the paint codes were the same, but they were reformulated differently by each paint manufacturer. Kind of a neat way to have a choice of which paint variance you prefer and still be true to the original paint code.

I love the color, gives it an appropriate retro look. What are the plans for completing the Miura?

    Dear Derek W
Please can you tell me the name of the paint manufacturer. Or the name and contact info of your friendly paint shop. Many thanks.
I do like that colour on a 308. Years ago I had a customers GTS QV in that colour; it was stunning. Will look out photos.
