Chairs & Flares (PHOTOS)

Apart from the Nardi steering wheel, "straight-line" headlight covers, and what appears to be alcantara dash covering, it looks like a nice restoration job. Can anyone tell whether it's an original C&F? Thanks for posting.

 

They definitely should be steel if they're original. They also look to me as though they might be slightly wide, but I'm no expert.

 

It's a very subtle thing. For starters, no cars came from the factory with the covers. They were, for the most part, a dealer add-on. The contemporary ones followed the compound curve of the fenderline in profile. Modern ones, while no doubt easier and cheaper to manufacture, describe more of a straight line in profile when viewed from the side. Less voluptuous, at least to the trained eye...

 

headlight covers aren't correct for us spec cars. the ones originally installed by maranello concesionaires are rounded and follow the contour of the of the front fender. these almost make a straight line from the upper part of the headlight area to the lower portion.

these seats are not the original seats.

flares are made of steel, not fiberglass.

what is the serial number of this car?

my first instinct is say this is a car restored to chairs and flairs specs and not an original version that had both those options

Those seats look very similar to mine.

What's wrong with them?

Could someone post a pic of an original Daytona style Dino seat that has that color combo please?

 

yours are different, look more closely at your areas where the black "straps" meet the tan leather

 

Looks pretty similar except the hills and valleys, is that the difference?:

absolutley!!!!! The leather should "puff" out from the straps. Redone seats almost never are done like this unless the upholster knows that this is the case.

the photo's of 05686 show it doesn't have that "puff" factor and the leather looks like new. tells me new seats.

according to the dino register, the wheels were first noted in 83, but the seats, although appearring as daytona's in 83 went back to normal.

the wheels have goofy center caps, but unless a closer photo is shown, it is hard to tell if they are original campagnolo's.

i don't know if the car is or isn't and don't want to disparage this car.

i personally have never cared for the flare option as i think it looks incredibley goofy in person. photo's don't show this aspect. if you stand next to the wheel and look down at the body, it just does nothing for me other than take away from the what the car is.

 

Back to the original subject:

Both lovely photography and a very lovely Dino.

Although I've never been a fan of the flairs (I think they look incongruent with the soft, feminine lines of the car) this car is very beautiful.

 

I think it's a nice looking car. I owned a factory chairs and flares about 20 years ago (07842), the flares gave it a bit of a wilder edge.

Yes. I believe the foam underneath may be contoured which makes this a labor intensive task to get the leather inserts to match up with the recessed areas of the foam.


One thing to feel on the flared wheel arches is the rolled outer edge.
